Does it always mean bad if the yolk and heartbeat didn't show at 6 week ultrasound?

Does it always mean bad if the yolk and heartbeat didn't show at 6 week ultrasound?

Time line: If there is no doubt about when a woman conceived, by 6 weeks gestation an embryo with a heart beat should be visible on transvaginal ultrasound. If conception is unknown then the absence of a yolk sac and a heart beat could indicate that the pregnancy is not along as far as believed. ...Read more

Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

8 weeks pregnant & on prometrium (micronized progesterone) due to vaginal bleeding at 4 weeks. Heartbeat at 6 weeks, another ultrasound scheduled next week. Miscarriage risk?

Slightly above norm: Bleeding during pregnancy does put you at slightly increased risk. Know, however, that 25% of women experience 1st trimester bleeding and the majority of those go on to have successful term pregnancies. Only time will tell. Best wishes and good luck with this pregnancy. ...Read more

Had ultrasound at 6. 2 weeks one had heartbeat 122. Dr said was a twin other sac in ultrasound will I expel it empty sac or does it go away?

Had ultrasound at 6. 2 weeks one had heartbeat 122. Dr said was a twin other sac in ultrasound will I expel it empty sac or does it go away?

Dissolves: Commonly twin gestation turns into single one due to loss of one fetus. As long as this happens early, there is usually no consequences for the remaining fetus. The other one is reabsorbed. Usually this happens for a good reason, and may mean one is not healthy. You could not have prevented it or caused it either. Get followup U/S to make sure you baby is growing well inside you. Best wishes!! ...Read more

First ultrasound last 09/22/2014 there were two embryos. One 6 weeks and 5 days, other 6 weeks and 3 days. However, no heartbeat was found.?

Need follow up: You will need a follow up ultrasound in 1 -2 weeks to evaluate the status of the findings. Sometimes the embryo is too small to clearly show a heartbeat prior to 6 weeks. Your doctor will likely correlate this with your lab results. ...Read more

Strong heartbeat heard and seen at 10 weeks, but the technician noted no sac? It was on my 8 week ultrasound. Is this normal? They didn't comment?

Yolk Sac?: If you mean the yolk sac, this structure regresses normally and is not visible by 10 wks. If the sac of fluid surrounding the fetus was no longer present then this would be a very serious finding indication premature rupture of the sac or problems with the fetal kidney system. Which do you mean? ...Read more

Just went in for an ultrasound today, my LMP on 25/10/14. Should be 9w 6d but baby measured 2 weeks less and no heartbeat. Does my baby have a chance?

Possibly no: If you had a scan and there is no heartbeat, then it could be an abnormal pregnancy or you could be just took early to see the heartbeat. If you are not having any signs of bleeding then usually I repeat the scan in one or two weeks to see if there is adequate growth. ...Read more

Why couldn't my baby heartbeat be found on a Doppler at 9 weeks and 4 days? Now I'm very scared and nervous waiting on my ultrasound appointment which is in a week.

Why couldn't my baby heartbeat be found on a Doppler at 9 weeks and 4 days? Now I'm very scared and nervous waiting on my ultrasound appointment which is in a week.

Heartbeat on doppler: In most cases, everything is ok. It may be that the lie of the fetus is so that it's hard to detect its heartbeat with a doppler machine. It's not that uncommon not to hear heart beat with a doppler machine at this gestational age. I agree things like miscarriage happen, but again in most cases, it's ok. ...Read more

Ultrasound says my fetus is 6 weeks 2 days but my gestational sac is 7 weeks 2 days. Heartbeat is normal. Is everything ok?

Ultrasound says my fetus is 6 weeks 2 days but my gestational sac is 7 weeks 2 days. Heartbeat is normal. Is everything ok?

Most likely: The most accurate measurement of the fetus is the crown rump length. The gestational sac is like a fluid filled balloon, not a perfect sphere. So the measurement of the sac can vary quite a bit depending on what part was measured. If there is already a fetal heart beat, that is a great sign. Keep your follow up appointments with your OB doctor. ...Read more
