Bakers cyst +ve for past 5 month, blood reports, CBC, Hb, ESR, Alkaline phosphate, Calcium, Phosphorous normal, Xray normal. what's the treatment?
Arthritis treatment.: The reason it is "Baker's" and not "Information Technologist Cyst" is that bakers were on their knees, caused irritation of the knee joint and the fluid pushed out of the joint like an inflated balloon. Treatment of the underlying inflammation helps (can involve draining the fluid and injecting steroids). ...Read more

Female.Age-38 hb was 4 in may 2012. Now 7.5.Serum folate (folic acid) >40.Tibc-460. Wbc-11100. Problem -pain in lage and breathing problem. What is your suggation.
I assume you meant: Legs, not lage. A hb 4, not good. Even 7.5 is still low. She still needs to be on iron replacement and the source of blood loss remedied. She is likely short of breath because of decreased ability to carry oxygen, same with the legs. If still symptomatic you could consider a transfusion, even 1 unit would help. Needs to be at 9 or 10 for symptom relief which is still low, norm around 12-14. ...Read more
Hi doc. Wana ask re:.urinalysis. i have trace proteins. many mucus threads. Rbc. 2-6 wbc 0-2 /hpf. Moderate epethial and few phospates? Is it ok?
Culture: Nonspecific findings. All is ok. A urine culture will be more definitive to let you know if these findings are due to infection. Most important is your symptoms. Any blood in urine (rbc) needs investigation, could be infection, traumatic or if over 50 and a smoker need to rule out cancer. Trace proteins can be a sign of other systemic disease, hypertension, diabetes, lupus etc.. ...Read more

See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your serum calcium is higher than normal and you should discuss it with your doctor. On lisonpril -hctz 8 days ago. Have had- diarrhea daily. Chemistry test shows chloride 97 ref range is 98-107. Carbon dioxide 31 ref rang 22-30?
Dehydrated: Obviously the Lisinopril does not agree with you, see your doctor about changing it. You are already taking a diuretic, hctz, (hydrochlorothiazide) and with your diarrhea you are losing even more fluid. This leads to "contraction alkalosis", which is why your co2 is becoming elevated. ...Read more
Phosphorus levels low on 1 test (2.1) but alk phosphatase & calcium are normal. Is there any correlation between alk phosphatase & phosphorus?
Yes,,,: Alkaline phosphatase is the enzyme that cleaves phosphate groups off of other molecules. It can be elevated or normal in hyperparathyroidism depending on the type. Your phosphorus levels are low but not too low (normal range 2.4 to 4.1 mg/dl) and can be from malnutrition, hyperparathyroidism, or alcoholism. It's a good idea to see your doctor and get more tests to be sure of the source of this. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

May be WBC: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, I trust the WBC 10-20 was in urine. If so, it should be repeated with proper urine collection of mid-stream specimen, after cleaning the external genitalia. Your doctor can advise on proper collection technique. Others are okay. ...Read more
Pregnancy and elevated liver enzymes of ALT 54? Pregnancy related? No alcohol. No meds, except materna, iron pill (palafer cf) & occasional tylenol (acetaminophen).
Yes.: If you have only alt elevetion and the rest of your blood work and exam is ok, you may have intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy -icp, which would resolve after delivery. Gallbladder us and elevated GGT confirm the diagnosis. The combination with the low platelets and elevated blood pressure, or hellp syndrome, is a complication of the severe preeclampsia which needed emergent hospitalisatio. ...Read more

Normal: The numbers you present are essentially all normal. The minimal increase in GGT is highly nonspecific and so small as to be of no concern (absent other symptoms or concerns that suggest a problem with your liver or gall bladder). If concerned, suggest a retest in 1-2 months (and be sure to avoid any alcohol for 2 weeks prior to the test - excess alcohol consumption can elevate the GGT). ...Read more

Husbands lab work came back.Bun/creat ratio h 21.6, chloride h 107meq/l, MCV h 96.0fl, MCH h 32.6pg. Doctor didn't mention these, what do each mean?
Ignore it: If your husband is healthy, this means absolutely nothing. An MCV of 96 fl is normal in my book. A bun/creatinine ratio of 21 is what we'd expect if he just got in from a good long sweaty session at the gym. We have a saying in pathology / lab medicine, "treat the person, not the numbers.". ...Read more
