Go to doctor: Go to your doctor, urgent care or hospital if this is a big change for you. If you often go 5 days between bm's then it's not as urgent. However, if you normal poop daily, you need to see a doctor for this. If uncertain, call your doctor and ask to be seen. ...Read more

Is it normal to bowel movement only pebbles for a couple days, then have to bowel movement five times in one day?

Is it normal to bowel movement only pebbles for a couple days, then have to bowel movement five times in one day?

Not usual, but...: although the pattern you described is not usual, some variation in the amount and frequency of bowel movements is not abnormal. As long as you're not having pain or bleeding, and as long as the stool consistency is fairly normal, I wouldn't worry. Increasing fiber in the diet will help regulate this. A fiber supplement each day, such as Metamucil, can help. Increasing fluid intake is also vital. ...Read more

My five month old will go 5-10 days without a bowel movement. Is this normal?

My five month old will go 5-10 days without a bowel movement. Is this normal?

Yes: Breast milk is so completely digested, the stool is either mostly water (in which case it can be frequent), or it may take up to 10 days to gather enough for a bowel movement (you'll see more wet diapers, then). The big question is whether the child is gaining weight properly (a starving child will obviously have fewer stools), or whether there are any other concerns such as vomiting, jaundice, l. ...Read more

Constipation : While there can be a lot of variability on how frequent someone poops, at the 3 day mark, it sounds like you're constipated. You should focus on staying hydrated, increasing your fiber intake, keep active and consider an over the counter laxative like Senna. If you start developing abdominal pain and nausea/vomiting seek an urgent evaluation to make sure there is no obstruction going on. ...Read more

Water: Veggies and fruit have lots of water. Eating efficiently and properly matching your physiological needs may have set a new baseline for you. Every 3rd day is a big change but not abnormal. The water in the veggies is absorbed, esp. If you are dehydrated. With less fats and proteins in your diet and in the gut, you have less fluid dynamics providing pressure for release. This is not my field, so.. ...Read more

Besides causing pain and bleeding, they can get infected and cause abscesses and/or fistulas. They should be properly diagnosed and treated too avoid complications. Drink more fluids and if the pain and bleeding doesn't stop in 10-14 days see a colon and rectal surgeon. ...Read more
