Hello I'm Casper. I recently got really bad psoriasis. I've had it a little bit in the past but it's almost all over my body now. Have tried Nizoral (ketoconazole).
Get serious Rx: Listen, Casper. You're going to need prescription-strength Rx and long-term care by a dermatologist. Home, over-the-counter and "pop" / "natural" remedies will fail. Good luck with this.

Several.: For most patient, alternating a zinc pyithione shampoo (head and shoulders) and a tar shampoo (neutrogena-t-gel), gives better results. Selenium shampoos work well and are an alternative. Finally, there are shampoos with salacyclic acid, which is keratolytic, meaning it helps break apart scales.
Many options: Sooner or later your scalp will get used to the tar shampoo - or you will get tired of smelling like you got dipped in creosote - so get several therapeutic shampoos and rotate them. Other good active ingredients are zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, and salicylic acid.See 1 more doctor answer

Tar shampoo: In USA shampoo is not expensive. A bottle lasts many weeks. Tar, salicylic acid, Zinc pyrethione shampoos are available as low-cost generics which often help psoriasis. Plan to shampoo daily, in a shower if possible. Often useful to wet the scalp and anoint it with shampoo an hour before washing. In US these shampoos are in supermarkets. Consider a visit to a dermatologist.

Many together.: Tar shampoo is very effective, but you need to clean the scalp first with a mild shampoo, and then use neutratar or a generic afterwards. Psoriasis on hand. Can I soak hand in coal tar shampoo such as tgel...If yes how long should it soak?
You can, but...: It won't hurt to try, but don't expect significant improvement unless your psoriasis is very mild. Tar preparations are (somewhat) useful for psoriasis, but tar shampoos aren't strong enough to thin plaques on hands significantly. Much more effective treatments are available; see a dermatologist.
