Chest pain: If you have chest pain and have taken Nitro without any improvement then you should be seen by a physician right away. You should go to an ER for evaluation. What happens if a person having chest pain from a reason not cardiac related takes nitroglycerin tab?
I am on Imdur ER 60mg and Nitroglycerin. 4mg. My BP is 80/60... I am having chest pain. Is it safe to take my nitro with that BP?
Lying down: It is surprising to me that a 23 year old would have significant enough coronary artery disease to require these medications. Nitroglycerin will briefly lower your blood pressure more which could be detrimental. If you are lying down when you take it you may not pass out or feel as dizzy. I've been taking nitroglycerin for episodes of chest discomfort (was prescribed by cardiologist to see if it helped). I don't notice much relief from it. Does this indicate it's not artery spasms?
Not necessarily: The crucial question you are asking is 'do I have cardiac disease, and is the chest discomfort I am experiencing due to this heart disease'? Ntg test does not do much to help to get to the answer to the question. Further testing needs to be done, such as an echocardiogram (which gives more info about the heart valves), stress testing and angiogram, which tells info about the coronary vessels. ...Read more
