Back pain and UTI: If your back pain is actually due to a UTI you should not be taking Nitrofurantoin since you probably have an upper tract infection. About same, but...: Both are very safe; the frequency of serious adverse reactions is probably about the same. However, nitrofurantoin is less likely to make your body's bacteria resistant to antibiotics, making it harder to treat future infections.
