Why does my body feel so cold after taking my last dose of nitrofurantoin? Kind of like fever but do not actually feel sick. Side effect?
?: Some people have just fever from a drug and the condition is called drug fever. The mechanism is unknown. You may also have chills (sensation of being cold) before the fever comes on. Given that you only had this sensation after having taken the last dose, the diagnosis is uncertain but it would still be wise to avoid this drug in the future since there are other options. ...Read more

Took 3 days Doxy for UTI, didn't work, so switched to Nitrofurantoin. Just took my first dose and wondering how long till it works? Really suffering.
UTI treatment: If bacteria causing UTI is sensitive to the antibiotic, symptoms usually are better in 1-2 days, although it may take a few more days to clear entirely. Phenazopyridine (Pyridium®) or the equivalent over-the-counter product (Azo® and others) can help control symptoms in the days before the antibiotic kicks in. I9 weeks preg with a UTI. Prescribed 3 tablets a day of Nitrofurantoin [30 tablets] but instructions say 4 tabs over 7 days? What is the correct dose?
Double check with MD: I would call the office to clarify - usually nitrofurantoin is given 4x a day, but maybe there was some reason they wanted only 3x a day. That might be if you have any pre-existing kidney trouble, in that case - a slightly lower amount might be better for you. I take nitrofurantoin for uti. On 3rd dose I had some wine before then. Middle of night had nausea and vomiting til late morning. Was that a reaction?

Numerous: Chemical relative of Dilantin (with enuf side-effects to fill a textbook), has many of the same problems. Minor symptoms include GI upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia). Allergic effects can be quite severe. It has many severe potential toxicities including nausia and vomitting that occur in 17-39% of people taking it, severe lung reactions, hepatitis, hemolytic anemia and peripheral neuropathy.
