Sweating At Night (Definition)

Night sweats may be a sign of an overactive thyroid, vitamin d deficiency, or a more serious problem like hodgkin's disease. The most common cause is probably just a heavy mattress and a warm room. The result is the same: waking up overheated and sweaty. Some people have a problem with sweating not just at night. ...Read more

Unrelated?: Your night sweats may or may not have anything to do with your periods. You need to start taking your temperature, not when you awaken, because it the sweating bringing the temp down, but if this happens at the same time, wake up 20 mins before the sweat and take your temp. If you have been running fevers, go and see a doctor. This has the potential to be serious. Good luck. Read more

My period came a month late and I'm suffering from mild night sweats. No other symptoms - hormone issue?

My period came a month late and I'm suffering from mild night sweats. No other symptoms - hormone issue?

Could be: The first thing I think of is thyroid disorder. But it's also possible to just skip a period because of stress and have night sweats because of that. Research shows that intermittent night sweat and hot flashes are more common than we thought. Many women have them randomly throughout their lives. But if they persist and more periods skip, hormone levels should be checked. Read more

Menopause: This is only one possibility, but because you are a little young it would probably be advisable for you to be seen by your pcp and evaluated thoroughly. Good luck. Read more

Need evaluation: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you and may be performing some tests. Polycystic ovary syndrome can explain your symptoms. Please consult this site and determine if you should see a gynecologist for an evaluation.

I had my tubes tied 14yrs ago and my period came on every month the same time but not it's coming on at different times of the month and I have night sweats before it comes on and during that time of the month can you help me understand.

Irregular periods.: Many things can cause irregular periods. If pregnancy is not the reason, thyroid problems can, among other causes. If you have begun any new supplements or over-the-counter meds, stop them. If you have night sweats for more than a week, get checked. Sometimes an infection (anywhere in your better) can have no other symptoms. Stress and illness also affect periods. Read more

I'm 8mths postpartum. I had night sweats for 2+mths then they stopped but returned the past few weeks. Still BF no period. Postpartum hormones?

Neighbor next door: Yes, it is hormones. The pituitary gland is attached to a part of the brain called the hypothalamus whereby hormone feedback loops are centered. The "next door neighbor" to the brain hypothalamus is the thalamus which controls temperature regulation. So, when that "house is on fire" so will the house next door feels the heat. Read more

52 days late for my period. Several HPT's all negative. Fatigue, hot flashes &night sweats what's going on?

Need a consult: If you have had several neg pregnancy tests you are not pregnant. The other symptoms sound more like a hormonal imbalance. Your Physician or Ob/Gyn should be consulted for an exam and lab tests to determine what is causing this. Don't be surprised if you need blood work, physical exam and pap smear and possibly an ultrasound. Good luck and get that consult. Read more

I have a swollen lymph node at the back of my neck I have lost 2 and a half stone over a period of 6 months. Night sweats becoming breathless, iching?

You need a medical c: You should have your doctor examine your lymph gland. If it is over 1 cm in size and growing, then a biopsy may be indicated. I would also advise you to have other tests done (like cbc, thyroid functions, liver functions etc) to find the cause of your unintended weight loss. Read more

21, f, I have muscular dystrophy. Have been having chills, hot skin and night sweats. No fever. Ended period 1 wk ago; been happening for 2wks.

Any fever?: Might want to have a chest x-ray done and a urinalysis. When relating your history on heath tap its ok to be more specificic about the type of muscular dystrophy you have. If you have, for instance fsh dystrophy and you have these symptoms i'd look for aspiration pneumonia before thinking about uti. Use of hydrocodone and Ativan (lorazepam) can increase your risk of micro-aspiration. Due to sedation. Read more
