I should have asked this before, does sleep apnea causes etreme night sweats?

Night sweats: Sleep apnea can certainly cause night sweats. The brief awakenings that occur throughout the night after the apneic episodes are associated with rapid heart rate, and blood pressure; increases in stress hormones like epinephrine; and profuse sweating. It's important to note that there are other important causes of night sweats to consider, like infectious diseases, that need to be considered. ...Read more

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (Definition)

Sleep apnea has two causes. It may be 'central' or 'obstructive'. Central apnea occurs as a disorder in the way the brain controls breathing. Cardiac conditions should also be considered (paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea). Variant asthma a more remote possiblity. ...Read more

What do you advise if I've been getting night sweats and sleep disturbances every day for a few weeks now?

Night sweats: Night sweats can be part of nightmares, even if you don't remember dream content. But if you haven't already had a physical exam it would be a good idea to see your Physician. If labs and exam don't show anything and the problem continues your doctor will probably want to have you do a sleep study. If caused by nightmares, I teach my No More Nightmares class over VTC to resolve nightmares. ...Read more

Why do drs. Say see shrink if cant sleep or have headaches. An night sweats. Do all women in the 50, s need a shrink from bad menapause symptoms.?

No shrink/see below: Night sweats: there are many potential causes to sweating at night. The term night sweats generally refers to excessive sweating at night related to a hormone imbalance.

There is no one answer to explain the origin of sweating at night. Some common causes are: infection, some cancers, several medications, low blood sugars and a host of other less common reasons.

Were going to focus in on the hormone imbalance commonly seen in menopause, although by no means limited to menopause. We have seen a common night sweats picture in the men with prostate cancer with elevated estrogen levels. Swelling often starts around your neck.

We generally start with saliva testing which allows us to identify what the hormone imbalance actually is and treat accordingly. When we don't start with saliva testing we very often get very good success with progesterone cream in the form of wild yam cream. There are many different preparations of wild yam cream on the market and often the preparation does not have enough progesterone cream to be effective.

The above is the simple answer the better answer is to work with a healthcare professional who has experiencing natural hormone therapy.

Hmmm....: Unexpected weight gain can be checked by one's primary care doctor. Possibly, there is a hormonal problem such as a thyroid hormone imbalance, or the presence of pregnancy hormones. Few things: Are the episodes random? Or are they clustered, happening night after night? If you are in your late 40's, and female with clustered sweats, this could be hormonal. If you are male, or younger female, or older female, or if the episodes are random, please see your doctor to get evaluated, as this could be something very serious, like lymphoma. ...Read more

Excessive night sweats, bad sleep, back pain since 2 weeks. Can this be due to my new foam mattress and using two blankets as the room is quite cold?

Not necessarily: As a mattress change can affect your sleep and cause back pain, but less likely night sweats. Some mattress/sheet combos do not breath well, so I can't say it's impossible that it's all related to the mattress/blanket combo. But I would try to switch over to a lightweight cotton (or other natural) fiber blanket and see how you feel. Otherwise, seek an in-person eval for other issues at hand. ...Read more

Sweats: If you are only having mild night sweats you may simply be getting too warm under the blankets you are sleeping with. I'm on 20mg Prozac (fluoxetine) daily & have been for 2weeks. This week I've had dreadful night sweats. Will this side effect subside? I'm not sleeping much now.

Sometimes: Because of Prozac (fluoxetine) long half life (which is a measure of how long it stays in your system), side effects can appear 2weeks after starting it, as it accumulates in your system. I notice you are pregnant also, so you may want to talk w your prescriber to try reducing the Prozac (fluoxetine) if you are better.
