Is swallowing pieces of plastic from night guard for grinding teeth dangerous?

No: Anything tiny and non-toxic that is small enough to be ground off a guard by teeth activity, if undigestable, will pass harmless through your GI tract and be eliminated in your stool. Don't give it a second thought.

Will a store-bought night guard work if I can't afford a custom one? I need a night guard to protect my teeth against grinding, but my insurance won't cover any of the cost of a custom one, and I also can't afford to pay it. In a pinch, can I just get one

Store nightguard: Yes, it will help the teeth from wearing because you kept something in between teeth. Since it was not made by dentist, the bite can be a problem which means it can create more muscle activity which is not great as you can end up with muscle fatigue and headache

Molars Hurt?: This sounds a little strange. Your bite perhaps needs some adjustments, or you may have a crack on a molar, or a cavity. See your dentist.

Seattle, Grinding: Seattle, grinding on children is common and normal. I would not generally (never say never, but I can't think of a reason why) recommend a night guard for children. While he probably has his first molars and a couple of front adult teeth in, he is in what is called a transitional dentition. I would be concerned when he has all adult teeth, a mortgage, a tough boss, and three kids that stress him out causing him to grind and/or clench away teeth that he needs for the rest of his life. That’s when you can buy him his first night guard. Hope this is helpful, michael i. Wollock, dmd, agd fellow dentistry at suburban square 610-649-0313 www. Dentistryatsuburbansquare. Com.

Night guard changing my bite?

Night guard changing my bite?

Possibly: A nightguard is a very sensitive splint that must be 'balanced' perfectly so that there are no interferences with your upper or lower teeth. The teeth that fit against the acrylic must all articulate at the same time or it may very well change your bite.

I was told not to use harsh cleaners as it can eat away at the night guard. Can I use peroxide instead?

I was told not to use harsh cleaners as it can eat away at the night guard. Can I use peroxide instead?

Dilute it!: 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 2 parts water can be safe. Also, stay away from alcohol-based mouthwashes (even diluted), since the alcohol dries out the plastic, making it easier to fracture and break. I recommend denture cleansers for my mouthguard patients. They are safe to use and leave the mouthguards with a mild decent taste.
