What symptoms?: Many different infections and condiitions will cause a fever such as you describe, but it is helpful to know your child's other symptoms before clear recommendations can be given. If he is alert and taking fluids well, it would be safe to wait to see if fever returns tonight before getting an evaluation. If he acts very ill or had been ill sev days before fever started, get checked. ...Read more

Viral infection: Intermittent cough, worse at night, is suggestive of allergies and asthma. However, fever is present with infection, most of which are viral. Increased respiratory rate is present with both asthma and lung infections. ...Read more

Wait another day: Antibiotics usually take 2-3 days to work. If the child is not better in another day, having taken the antibiotics already for 2 days, the child's fever should be re-evaluated and more tests done if required. Even if the child had a throat culture with strept grp A positive, there should always be a doubt and child shd be seen again. Penicillins & first generation cephalosporins better for strep ...Read more

4yr old boy, having cough one day on and off mild to moderate more at night. Fever 102-3Respiratoy rate fast 42/min. Steroid nebilization can I do? Harm?

Take him to the: Emergency room! A respiratory rate of 42 at his age is high. He needs an exam by a doctor and possibly an Xray and treatment. A steroid nebulization may not work quickly enough. A bronchodilator nebulization would be better. Part of the increased respirations may be from the fever, but I wouldn't take a chance. Have him checked, please. ...Read more

On chemo wbc low bad fever. Iv antibiotics started since lady night. Fever fluctuating between 37-38.9? why not resolving?

Takes time: In your physical condition, the likely reason you got the infection is that your immune system isn't working as strongly as it should. Antibiotics don't work immediately, and the body's response to the infection (any localizing symptoms, fever) can lag behind that. Be patient, and discuss your concerns (and be sure to follow up as directed) with your treating doctors. ...Read more

7yearold daughter had flu since Mon. On tamiflu (oseltamivir) since Tues night. Fever gone since Wed. No symptoms left. Still contagious? I have a 4 month old baby.

7yearold daughter had flu since Mon. On tamiflu (oseltamivir) since Tues night. Fever gone since Wed. No symptoms left. Still contagious? I have a 4 month old baby.

Flu: Technically the flu is considered contagious for 5-10 days after the start of symptoms. Basic infection control practices: good hand washing, don't share drinks, utensils, cough or sneeze into a tissue or into your shirt sleeve. Since your 7 yo is no longer symptomatic (no more cough?) then the rest should be easy. ...Read more

My baby is 17months. Since last night fever around 102-103 and he had snuffles, drivel, runny nose. Can't sleep or eat well. No cough no sneeze. What todo?

High fevers: This is an age where high fevers are common most commonly with viral illnesses. With congestion and runny nose along with not sleeping well there is the possibility of an early ear infection. Most fevers from viral illnesses last about 3 days and if over 101 degrees, treating with Tylenol (acetaminophen) will help him feel better. Have him seen by his doctor Monday if he is still not feeling well. ...Read more

sick cold symptoms spitting out green mucus chest pains body aches waking in night sweats every night fever and cold sores wats going on?

See a physician!: Your symptoms are worrisome for possible pneumonia. You may need antibiotic treatment. It's not possible or proper to make a diagnosis without examining you and taking a medical history. Stop looking for answers on the internet and see a physician as soon as possible. Your delay in seeing a physician may allow any infection to get worse, making it more difficult to cure. ...Read more

Why do symptoms get worse at night like fever or cough?

Increased vagal tone: That's rather physiological, parasympathetic part of the nervous system tends to have increased activity at night, the vagus nerve, one of the most complex cranial nerves, is part of that system, it innervates several systems, hence the increased symptoms at night, also the fever is controlled centrally in the brain. This is an intricate complex system cannot be fully understood / explained here ...Read more

My 5 year old is having fever. Should I check her temp regularly at night? If fever occurs, shoukd I wake her up for medication?

No: Sleep has more benefit to your child than any chart you might be keeping to follow her illness.Fever actually slows the growth of most germs & speeds a kids metabolism to help them fight the illness. If she wakes, a med may be in order to help her get back to sleep but you can do that based on a warm forehead. There is no need to check her temp. I would concentrate more on fluid needs. ...Read more

I get spells of chills and dizziness...maybe once a week often at night. No fever. I can't get warm. It can last a few hours.?

Honestly...: To be honest with you dizziness is one of the most challenging symptoms there is in medicine. So many conditions present with dizziness that even when we have information about other symptoms it can be difficult to make a final diagnosis. My suggestion is to see a doctor so you can get examined and have tests ordered as needed and required. ...Read more
