Nido Is Harm Full Or Not
Is 4oz of formula to much for a 9lb 12oz baby to be drinking? She seems not to be satisfied with 2.5oz of formula anymore. I hope I'm not over feeding
No: The average tolerated feed in an infant is about half their poundage as ounces. In other words, a 8 pound kid could take 4 oz.,a 10 lb kid 5 and so on. If the kid empties every bottle offered, you can gradually increase the amount by 1/2 oz /time until they leave some behind. If they spit up a lot, you back off some. ...Read more

Juice : Juice is basically sugar water and has very little nutritional value. It has been shown to contribute to both tooth decay, diarrhea, malnutrition and obesity. Eating the actual fruit loaded with fiber is a much healthier option. In 2001, the american academy of pediatrics released the following recommendations regarding fruit juice: "-juice should not be introduced into the diet of infants before 6 months of age. -infants should not be given juice from bottles or easily transportable covered cups that allow them to consume juice easily throughout the day. Infants should not be given juice at bedtime. -intake of fruit juice should be limited to 4 to 6 oz/d for children 1 to 6 years old. For children 7 to 18 years old, juice intake should be limited to 8 to 12 oz or 2 servings per day. -children should be encouraged to eat whole fruits to meet their recommended daily fruit intake." pediatrics vol. 107 no. 5 may 2001, pp. 1210-1213 american academy of pediatrics: the use and misuse of fruit juice in pediatrics many parents (including myself) opt to not give children any juice as long as they eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Since your grandchildren refuse milk products, their biggest nutrtional concerns are calcium and vit d - only found in a few fortified juice products anyway. There are other foods the children can eat high in these nutrients such as yogurt, cheese, fortified cereals, fortified bread, almonds, soy beans, and leafy greens such as broccoli and kale. Is it possible for a 2 year old to drink to much milk. He only wants milk, no water or juice. He is drinking nothing but 2%milk really. ?
Actually is dangeros: Cow milk is designed for cows, but in moderate amounts (16-24 oz) a kid gets all the calcium their body needs in an easy package. However, some develop a milk craving to the exclusion of other foods. This can lead to microscopic bleeding in the gut/anemia and other dietary deficiencies. Stop him at 16-24 and have his iron level checked. This can be a real problem. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Generally yes: Babies tend to get what they need at mom's expense. If you are underweight, there is a higher risk for growth problems if you are not consuming enough calories. In a normal pregnancy, you only need an extra 300 calories per day in the third trimester from what you would normally eat when you are not pregnant. In spite of popular belief, you are not really "eating for two". ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Why are supplements of NAC not recommended? Do they pose a threat to health? Or is it just because it is not "FDA approved"?
Dietary Supplements: Many are reluctant to recommend dietary supplements due to limited information (studies, data, etc.) available to them. FDA approval is a long expensive endeavor, most supplement companies lack resources for the process. Most supplements are safe in sensible doses. Drug interactions exist, and certain medical conditions can be worsened with their use. Holistic/integrative practices are expert. ...Read more

Is it alright to not eat vegetables at all? My husband does not eat them and does not take any vitamins. Is this ok?
Not usually: People can survive on very poor diets (eg fast foods, with high fat and salt). However, the more vegetables and fruits one eats, the healthier he or she is. Try experimenting with different types of spices, sauces, or cooking methods (eg roasting with oil and garlic)! ...Read more

Is it safe to drink tap water while pregnant? Will it harm the baby ? Will it effect fetal development in any way? Is bottle water better to drink?
Tap water is fine: In the United States -- every community, every state -- tap water is entirely safe, in both pregnant and non-pregnant persons. Many people prefer bottled water, but the only rational reason is taste: if you like it better and can afford it, use bottled water. But assuming no special contamination issue -- which the health department and media would publicize -- tap water is entirely safe. ...Read more
Is drinking monster energy once every 2-3 weeks good for you or will it cause any harm to my body ?
Energy drinks: Energy drinks have no nutritional value - meaning they're empty calories. However, there's no evidence i know of that says having one every 2-3 weeks will cause significant or lasting harm to the body.
