I just thought I would let you all know that I found counseling to help me quit smoking. They give out counseling and free nicotine gum.

Great!: There are many programs, some from the american lung association and other groups which cna help offer support to quit smoking. I reviewed an article long long ago that found that people who eventually quit long term often made multiple attempts - indicating that if at first you don't succeeed - try, try, try again.

Does use of nicotine gum cause or worsen gingivitis?

Does use of nicotine gum cause or worsen gingivitis?

Gingivitis: Infection of gum tissue caused by bacteria. In other words if you are not cleaning your mouth properly the tissues will get red, swollen, sore. Smoke, containing nicotine, makes tissues more susceptible to the enzymes and toxins produced by the bacteria. Nicotine in gum is irritating, but not as much as nicotine containing cigarette smoke. Quitting is very hard, but your body will thank you. ...Read more

I stopped smoking in first of january, using nicotine gum. But this week I always think about smoking, what to do. Please help! ?

Smoking cessation: Congratulations on having quit. It may take some time to get over the cravings. Try using the nicotine gum to get you through a rough period. Use carrot or celery sticks to simulate having a cigarette in your mouth/fingers. Your doctor might prescribe a course of Chantix to block the nicotine cravings if all else fails. Good luck with your endeavor. ...Read more

What are some medications or treatments w/o life threatening side effects that can help someone stop smoking? Other than the e-cig and nicotine gum.

What are some medications or treatments w/o life threatening side effects that can help someone stop smoking? Other than the e-cig and nicotine gum.

Hypnotherapy: Hypnotherapy can break tobacco habits. It can make the use of the tobacco product aversive - even disgusting. That can cause social problems if those near you smoke, but it can work without that extreme an effect too. Here's a hint: the breathing pattern of smokers is actually good to continue - without the cigarette. It is good for you and stopping that is part for what makes it feel so bad. Best. ...Read more

Please point me to where I can get free nicotine gum?

Same place that you: Got the free cigarettes. There are some low-cost smoking cessation programs that are publicly sponsored that may offer smoking cessation medications, including gum, lozenges or patches, at low or little cost. However, even if you cannot get them free, the trade-off for what you are already spending on tobacco, and the savings to your health and longer lifespan, are well worth whatever it costs. ...Read more

Can a child get severely sick if he swallows a nicotine gum tablet?

Maybe: Depends on the dose that is ingested and the size of the child. Having said that, children who ingest only one dose are unlikely to have any major issues or side effects. Still, any time a child ingests anything a caretaker should immediately call poison control to assess the situation and get recommendations. 1-800-222-1222. ...Read more

Can you use expired nicotine gum?

Yes: Most expiration dates are not all that accurate. It is not like a medicine is fine one day and the next day it suddenly goes bad. If it's just a few months past the expiration date it's probably perfectly fine. If it is way past it may not be quite as potent as it once was but it will not be dangerous. Try it and see.
It will certainly be WAY safer than smoking cigarettes, which are deadly poison! ...Read more

Nicotine gum, are there any side effects?

Nicotine gum, are there any side effects?

A few: The nicotine can cause stomach upset, heartburn and reflux esophagitis, especially in higher doses, and very high doses of nicotine can cause nausea, vomiting and worse, but this rarely, if ever happens with the gum, lozenges or patches. The gum is very thick and hard to chew, and can cause TMJ (jaw) pain, pull out loose fillings and even teeth, so that lozenges are my preferred recommendation. ...Read more

I'm addicted to nicotine gum should I be worried?

Not particularly: Since it is far better than being dependent on the nicotine in tobacco, which comes with organic agents, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide and assorted other poisons. The gum is not great for your jaw and teeth, and can cause TMJ pain and pull out fillings. I would recommend switching to lozenges, or better yet, go to an equivalent dose patch (14-21 mg) for a week then cut back for 1-2 weeks ; stop. ...Read more

I'm trying to quit smoking is nicorette (nicotine gum) gum a good choice?

Not best: Anything that raises your nicotine level and then drops it creates a craving for cigarettes. Nicotine gum & spray do that. Patches feed you an even level of nicotine without spikes. If you use patches do not stop short of 2 months if you can afford that long. Do not rush this. It is a behavior as we'll as a chemical addiction. Wash your clothes. Stop alcohol & coffee if need be.
