Lump in throat won't go away. Took pepcid zantac. Was on prilosec for a bit it stopped working. Should I try nexium (esomeprazole)? My cardiologist said to do two pills twice a day. Then go up to 2 pills twice a day. If all fails go to gastro.

Was on Nexium (esomeprazole) for 10 yrs. I wanted to see if I still needed it so I stopped for about 7 weeks. Could that put me at risk for Barrett's after 7 weeks?
Unlikely: You need years of acid exposure to increase risk for Barrett's esophagus. If you don't notice any acid reflux symptoms off your Nexium, (esomeprazole) then it's even less likely that you're at risk. Check out http://www. Mayoclinic. Org/diseases-conditions/barretts-esophagus/basics/definition/CON-20027054 for more info. ...Read more

Possibly: Ulcers in the duodenum and stomach are usually caused by excess acid production. Nexium (esomeprazole) lowers acid production and thus decreases ulcer formation.
