Many meds: At your age (or anyone else for that matter) taking five medicines and wanting another one is not smart unless your doctor has told what medical problems you have. Having said that, if your doctor did prescribe those meds, over time the meds should be reduced. Please let me know what develops. ...Read more

Too many: You are taking so many drugs that it is difficult to tell whether drug interaction may occur. Even if you run a profile in Epocrates , it is impossible to tell whether a combination with another drug may lead to interaction. Thus you will require close monitoring by your doctor and be on the lookout for any adverse effects. ...Read more

Taken Nexium, (esomeprazole) generic Nexium, (esomeprazole) and Protonix which cause drowsiness. Would it be worth taking Prevacid or Prilosec? Will tired feeling go away with time
Doubtful: None of the actions of any of these drugs would have anything to do with drowsiness. That is a very uncommon side effect of any of them. BUT Prilosec is well known to gum up the liver's ability to get other drugs out of you including all sedatives including alcohol.... so .. that one is doubly out. Otherwise, while I cannot explain why these drugs do that on you, the entire group is similar ...Read more

Nope: Nothing is 100% in medicine. However, you can relieve your symptoms if taking the medicine properly. It's designed to be taken 30 min prior to the largest meal of the day. I usually tell my patients before the evening meal. Should be taken for only 3 months. If you still have problems after that time period, you may need a scope of your upper esophagus/stomach/duodenum. Aka egd. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Does Zantac (ranitidine) works for acid reflux? Would you recommend Zantac (ranitidine) for acid reflux?
Zantac (ranitidine) works 4 GERD: Zantac (ranitidine) was the leading drug in the world when introduced in the early 1980's to treat indigestion. Conventional prescription doses were 300mg twice daily. The drug is effective in suppressing acid, but when used longterm can promote tolerance (so that larger doses are needed over time to block acid). Current over-the-counter dosing is 75mgs. Take along with behavior & diet aimed at reducing gerd. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Depends who answers: Prevacid (http://www.drugs.com/prevacid.html) is a brand of generic lansoprazole. Most original versions of drugs are 50:50 mix of mirror images. In other words, they come in right AND left hand versions. Some manufacturers have learned to separate active version (sometimes right, other times left) from inactive one. Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) (http://www.drugs.com/mtm/dexilant.html) is active right hand version. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Duration&dosage of treatment of nonerosive reflux esophagitis? Have taken protonix 2x20MG for a month, still feeling acid, want to switch to Nexium (esomeprazole).
May be warranted.: If you were diagnosed with nonerosive esophagitis and protonix does not seem to be taking care of the symptoms after taking it regularly for a month, it may be appropriate to switch to a different PPI such as Nexium (esomeprazole). I would recommend continuing antireflux measures and returning to see your gastroenterologist. Good luck. ...Read more
