Cutting my 10mg Lexapro (escitalopram) in half to see if anorgasmia disappears. Haven't felt much benefit from 10mg after 16 days, so is 5mg a legit dose?
You sound smart: And yes, using a taper by half for a week, then another half if needed sounds safe — but it is still best to pass it by the Dr who Rx'd. They learn by getting this sort of feedback and can protect you from a bad reaction only if they know what's happening. Best wishes! Consider CBT therapy to learn skills for living. ...Read more
Does the side effects of lexapro (escitalopram) outweigh the benefits, or is it vice versa? If so what are some serious side effects of lexapro (escitalopram)?
Good outweighs: Most people get no side effects from Lexapro (escitalopram). Serious side effects can happen with any medicine, but are very rare with Lexapro (escitalopram) (e.g., bone marrow suppression, anaphylaxis, etc.). Among the commoner side effects are weight gain and suppression of sexual feeling: if you were to get either of these, you should probably switch to another medicine. unless you found a way to limit them. ...Read more
Prescribed Lexapro (escitalopram) today. Doc said I can take morning or evening but are their benefits to either?
Lexapro (escitalopram): Start by taking Lexapro (escitalopram) at a time that best fits your routine. Usually meds that might be sedating (make you sleepy) are better taken at bedtime while those that may be more stimulating are better taken in the morning. Lexapro (escitalopram) generally is neither. Just be consistent and take it about the same time every 24 hours to maintain a therapeutic blood level. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Md suggested Adderall for my tx-resistant depression. Has me on 60 mg Lexapro (escitalopram) right now + no benefit. Is this mds approach typical?
Off-label use: When an antidepressant at therapeutic dosage doesn't relieve depressive symptoms, the psychiatrist can either change the antidepressant or try to augment it with another medication. There are several possible choices here -- including low-dose adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine), (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) especially if the patient needs energizing. This is an off-label but generally safe and effective use of adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine). Check BP & pulse. ...Read more

Typos are BAD: Lexapro (escitalopram) is prescribed at 10 mg per day — research showed no benefits in most cases at 20 mg. If you intended to ask about life risk at that daily dose — there is none in the warnings. You need not fear dying from it. However, your extra "1 " before 10 mg is a worry. A dose of 110 mg would require immediate medical attention and in some cases, the damage it could do might prove fatal. Take care! ...Read more
Probably not: It is not clear if long term administration of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors can lead to any long term side effects. There are studies that would suggest changes in mortality although these are not considered to be universally true. There are also some studies that show that they can lead to low bone mineral density although more research is needed on this specific issue. Stay safe! ...Read more
