What does 90% percentile in infant head circumference mean?

Relative study: His rating means that 10% of infants at this age have a larger head circumference (size) while 90% are smaller. If the size has increased from 25-50-75-90% over several months it would suggest growth was too rapid. If usually in that range, it just means the kid has a big head.It hasn't bothered me any, except for having trouble finding a helmet/hat that would fit.. ...Read more

Is a 23 head circumference size normal?

Is a 23 head circumference size normal?

Hope so: I suppose you mean inches in circumference. This is is on the larger size for an adult, but since mine is bigger, i think it is fine. It does make finding head gear that fits a bit harder. It would be a bit off the chart for a 3 year old. ...Read more

Hi my 9 week old sons head circumference measures 16 inches he weighs 11pounds 8ounces, is that in the normal range for head measurement.

Head circumference: A head circumference of 16 inches at 9 weeks places him at the 95% for his age and sex. This is considered normal. I don't have a height, but his weight is about the 85%, so it seems from that he is generally a big boy. The more important factor, however, is interval growth from visit to visit. If he's always been at the 25% and suddenly is at 95%, that's more concerning than if he is always 95%. ...Read more

Probably fine: It's fine for an infant to have a large head, as long as it stays at a fairly constant percentile. It's only when heads grow or shrink too quickly that the child should be evaluated further. Make sure to talk with ur baby's pediatrician if u r concerned. ...Read more

10 week old baby length and weight both 85th percentile. Head circumference 95th percentile. Does this mean he has a big head in proportion to body?

10 week old baby length and weight both 85th percentile. Head circumference 95th percentile. Does this mean he has a big head in proportion to body?

Not really: I don't consider that difference worth anything more than noting. Big babies are big all over and this falls within the normal variation of such measurements. If the kid was 50% weight/length and 95% head, I would just measure the parents head to see where baby inherited it from. There are other issues to consider with a big head, but not from the reported info. ...Read more

My son is 13 month his head circumference is 48 CM is that normal?

Maybe normal: A 13 month-old boy usually has a head circumference between 45 and 48 cm. If a boy is normal in his growth and development, and his body shape and head shape are similar to that of his parents' traits, then his head size is considered normal. ...Read more

Small head circumference and low weight percentile mean failure to thrive?

Small head circumference and low weight percentile mean failure to thrive?

Depends: By definition, at least 3% of the normal population will grow along the smallest portion of the regular growth scales. Consistent growth along that or any percentile is not necessarily a failure to thrive. However;infants starting at the 25% & moving down to the 10% months later & heading toward the 5% in such measurements would be considered ftt because if the drop in growth rate. ...Read more

My baby is in 75% percentile height and 25percentile weight.6 month old boy.17 lb at and 27.5 inch height.is it normal?

Tough word - normal: Being thin and tall is perfectly fine if the child is growing along their growth curves normally. Make sure your pediatrician or FP doctor is measuring height and weight and plotting them on a growth curve. If the baby odd changing percentiles over time, you may need to intervene with nutritional or medical help. Check with your doctor on this ! ...Read more

My 4 months baby's head circumference is 46 cm, is it ok?

My 4 months baby's head circumference is 46 cm, is it ok?

Depends: This would be at the high end of normal for a male infant & usually paired with a length of 67 cm. You can download a growth chart from the cdc website & plot known measures to follow the child's pattern. www.cdc.gov/growthcharts if your kid is shorter or the head size is increasing faster than his length, it is unusual. If this is a girl the head is too big. ...Read more

My 4 month old baby has a 98th percentile head circumference. His head has been in this percentile since pregnancy and birth. Is this worrying?

NOT PARTICULARLY: Stable parameters are usually normal, while a worrisome feature would be crossing growth lines from average to large. That would require some additional workup.Often at least one parent has a big head (genetic influence). Since I've lived with this for quite a while I don't think its a problem. It can become a problem when trying to find a hat that fits. ...Read more

What is the normal head circumference for a 4years old microcephaly?

What is the normal head circumference for a 4years old microcephaly?

Good question : I am not sure if there is a special chart for the microcephalics, his development may have been charted before overtime and compared to normal curves, development is a complex process, and not measured only by the head circumference, other aspects of the original disease and development interact, check this link too: http://www.who.int/childgrowth/standards/second_set/cht_hcfa_boys_p_0_5.pdf ...Read more
