Oral medications are usually single dose treatments. They are however, metabolized in the liver. One of its side effects may be liver toxicity. Absorption is also a factor which may limit its effectivity. Vaginal creams can be messy to some people. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My gf has had more than 10 urinary infections per year for 11 years. After each treatment, she gets candidiasis. What could be causing the infections?
From antibiotics: She should see a urologist to look at ways to see why she has such frequent uti. It could be from bladder stones, from bladder diverticulum, from sex, or other reasons. More than likely the fungal infection (candidiasis) is due to the effect of the antibiotics she is taking for UTI on the bacterial flora of the vagina, allowing overgrowth of yeast. Good morning, For patients who had severe allergic reaction to oral fluconazole for treatment of candidiasis, which treatment would you suggest? Thanks
It depends...: Potential options are caspofungin and related drugs, nystatin, and amphoteracin B. But this depends a lot on the particular kind of candidiasis: different for superficial or body orifice infections (vaginal, anal, mouth) than for advanced (e.g. bloodstream) infections. If you mean "systemic candidiasis", that's an urban myth, not a real illness and doesn't need treatment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

HI, i have a candida infection under my armpit that was unresponsive to cortisone treatment. What can I get over the counter now that I am on holiday?
Fungal cream.: Cortisone does not treat fungal infections, and, in fact, can make them much worse. If you use an over the counter fungal med (Like lotrimin (clotrimazole) or nystatin) and the rash does not get better, see a doc for evaluation. Also avoid fragrances and harsh soaps which cause skin irritation and will add to your problem. Avoid animal products with antibiotics used in their feed, as well. ...Read more

Intertrigo: Yeast is not likely. Cortisone is not good for yeast, sometimes makes worse. Most likely it is chaffing and tight clothing in hot weather + travel. Shower very beneficial. Not too hot, no scrubbing. Antiperspirant, even if it stings, may help. Hydrocortisone added if severe itch. Do not shave under arms. If persists, a good dermatologist will help you. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Patience: Babies sit in the equivalent of moisturizers and cold cream prior to delivery, cancelling the effect of pregnancy/maternal hormones and air drying on the skin. Within a few weeks, neonatal acne will emerge on most infants and continue to some extent for weeks until it disappears by 4-6 months of age. No treatment beyond keeping the skin clean is justified by this transient process. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
