Just curious student: have new HIV drugs changed much since the days of azt (zidovudine)? Do new drugs like stribild have a chance of being resisted?

Antiretrovirals: The HIV mutates continuously, and this is one of several reasons why combination therapy with several drugs attacking the virus in different stages of its life cycle are necessary. Development of resistance is very common and when this happens, alteration of the therapeutic choices are often made. ...Read more

Should u change toothbrushes after every herpes oral outbreak?

Should u change toothbrushes after every herpes oral outbreak?

Not that necessary: Cold sores/herpes are quite common and can be contagious. Changing your tooth brush every 3 months or so is recommended for dental care, but not that necessary for cold sore prevention (assuming u r not sharing toothbrush). The virus that is causing your recurrent sores comes from your own body/nerve, not toothbrush. There are medicines to suppress them if you have frequent recurrences. Good luck. ...Read more

On bcps. Sex last day of with. Bleed. Used condom. Start new pack 1-2 days late. Possibility of pregnant from this encounter? Ovulate from miss 2 pills?

Is the new OTC HIV test reliable?

Is the new OTC HIV test reliable?

Yes, but...: It's a good test, but has a lower sensitivity than standard tests, meaning that there can be false negatives. As with any rapid test, false positives can also occur. Following the instructions very carefully will help reduce the chances of a false negative test. Any positive test should be confirmed with a standard test. ...Read more

If pharmacy switches birth control brands but same levels, is there ANY chance of new side effects like spotting? I always spot when trying new pills.

If pharmacy switches birth control brands but same levels, is there ANY chance of new side effects like spotting? I always spot when trying new pills.

Possibly: sometimes with generic pills even though the dosages are within the technical range there can be enough differences to cause spotting or irregular bleeding, but the contraceptive effect should still be intact ...Read more

How come we test new drugs against nothing (placebo)?

Bleeding after switching to new birth control pill brand. Is this normal? Causes?

Bleeding after switching to new birth control pill brand. Is this normal? Causes?

Breakthrough bleed: Sounds like breakthrough bleeding which occurs when you have bleeding at unscheduled times while on the pill. Often things get back to normal the next cycle. If not then schedule a visit to discuss changing brands or changing birth control methods. This is very common. Other than being annoying it is not dangerous. Your body does not recognize one brand form another unless the dose changed ...Read more

Hiv Tests 12, last ones -4 mon hiv rna, 5 mon hiv Ab (3rd gen), 6 mon hiv combo -all neg--condom slipped, some symps, decided to forget hiv, can i?

A qualified YES.: If ,6 months and 12 tests later, you're wondering if you should stop worrying, then, clearly, you were REALLY worried. Yes, you dodged a bullet, but now you need to step out of the line of fire. Focus on safe sex, always use a condom, choose your partner(s) wisely and avoid situations to lead you to risky behavior. You shouldn't "forget "HIV but you can limit your exposure & your worries. ...Read more

I'm taking a new prescription of birth control & I have not bleed in 2months I'm sexually active & been self tested for pregnancy (neg) is this normal?

Tell the office but.: Don't worry. The adjustment period is about 3 months. Heavy bleeding, nausea, headaches, moodiness and mid cycle bleeding can all occur. Sometimes pills reduce the amount of monthly bleeding to the point where none occurs. This is not a bad thing. There is no minimum amount of bleeding needed to stay healthy. If you are taking it correctly then don't worry about the "light" periods. ...Read more

Had protected vaginal sex with CSW. How reliable is negative HIV p24 antigen combo test at 20 days mark? Also, getting results tomorrow for HIV RNA PCR at 19 days. Will that be conclusive if negative?

Had protected vaginal sex with CSW. How reliable is negative HIV p24 antigen combo test at 20 days mark? Also, getting results tomorrow for HIV RNA PCR at 19 days. Will that be conclusive if negative?

Pretty reliable: most people who turn positive would be positive at least borderline by day 14-20. There are uncommon cases of over 1 month to turn positive. NOte that the incidence of this is far lower than the liklihood of someone Totally Lying about What They are Doing !. Oh, sorry, that's for the antibody. The antigen/other measures of virus should be done TOGETHER with antibody. REALLY low risk of false negat ...Read more

HIV NEGATIVE combo (antibody + antigen) tests at 4,6,10,13,14 weeks and PCR RNA VL UNDETECTED (14 weeks) white tongue. Risk: gay deep kiss. Am I HIV-?

HIV NEGATIVE combo (antibody + antigen) tests at 4,6,10,13,14 weeks and PCR RNA VL UNDETECTED (14 weeks) white tongue. Risk: gay deep kiss. Am I HIV-?

You are HIV-neg: I hope this is good news. "White tongue" is usually bacteria, and you may be able to scrape them off with a piece of dental floss held tight. You can trust the test if it is your only exposure. I hope you're comfortable with your sexuality and that you're pleased to have shared a kiss -- guys of all orientations may enjoy perhaps kissing a buddy, and nobody's ever gotten HIV by kissing. ...Read more

Mucus like red blood on placebos. The bleeding is light. Switched bcp this month but used condoms during sex. Implantation or withdrawal bleeding?
