My new glasses causes me to get headaches. How do I figure out what is wrong with new glasses?

My new glasses causes me to get headaches. How do I figure out what is wrong with new glasses?

Complicated: Soemtimed the correct prescription can give headaches during the adjustment period. That being said, sometimes the power of the precription needs to be reduced (cut) to enable the patient to adjust, with the full prescription being weaned in over a 6-12 month period. Speak to your ophthalmologist.

Vision has to adjust: The visual system is quite important in maintaining a sense of balance/equilibrium, & sensing "dizziness." This is because there are discrete connections between the optic nerves and the cerebellum as well as other areas of the brain important to control balance. When you get new glasses your eyes need time to adjust and the connections to the cerebellum need to "reset."

Could my headaches be caused by my need for glasses?

Could my headaches be caused by my need for glasses?

Yes: Headaches can be very complicated to address. So we try to start with the simple and obvious causes. If glasses were recommended, try them out and see what happens with the headache. If no improvement, see your primary. At least you will have improved your vision.

Could not wearing glasses cause you to have headaches the next day?

DEFINITELY: Headaches are often related to eye issues and changes in your sight by not wearing glasses if needed. But headaches can also occur due to other problems- grinding and clenching of the teeth, sinus, etc. I would see a doctor for a consult.

My right glasses lense is really scratched up. I am having right temple tightness and pain and slight general headache. Could the glasses cause this?

Possible: It is possible that the scratches are promoting eye strain which may contribute to the sense of temple tightness and headache. However, there are diseases such as temporal arteritis, which would be uncommon in a 30 year old female, that can also cause such symptoms. If the symptoms are persistent, an examination with an ophthalmologist is recommended.

Can allergies cause glasses to take longer to adjust? Been having facial & eye pain w/ headache throughout the day. Nt sure if it's my glasses

Probable: Allergies can cause headaches and if the eyes are involved, blurred vision may result. Eye pain is more common with dry eyes than allergic eyes. Given that you have asthma as well, I think an allergy consult may be worthwhile to help you sort this out.

Are dizziness and headaches signs that you may need new glasses?

This is stated in re: Reverse to another question. Eye problems usually do not cause nausea and dizziness. You can get some dizziness from blurred vision I guess but the room should not spin. Since all of these could be neurological symptoms you need to see a doctor if they persist or worsen.

Migraine from mnthly cycle started last fri. Still have dull headache, feel fine in am, worse in pm. Could it be due to my new glasses?

Migraine from mnthly cycle started last fri. Still have dull headache, feel fine in am, worse in pm. Could it be due to my new glasses?

Unlikely the glasses: The glasses usually don't cause tension type headache which is what you describe. If your menstrual cycles produce regular headaches then you might want to consider miniprophylaxis with an agent like Frova (frovatriptan) if your neurologist agrees. Other considerations would include elemental magnesium, riboflavin, and butterbur.

Check the glasses: Before you ignore the headaches, you might want to check with whoever made the glasses to be sure they were made correctly, and if so, with the doctor to be sure the prescription is correct.
