Suddenly itching without rashes, after wearing new shirt. Took antihistamine but still feel the same. Severe at night cannot sleep. 2 days already.
I have itchy throat and excess mucus, the muscles in my chest hurts. It all began when I started at a new university. Antihistamine does not help.
How can I safely test to see if an antihistamine produces drowsiness? I know even the new generation has this side effect.
Wait until a day: when you don't have to go to school (weekend) and try it. It's the only way to know. Take the smallest dose available and see if it works. ...Read more
I seem to have developed an allergy to our new dogs. Tried several antihistamines but Benadryl works best. Can i take on a regular basis?
Allergy: Remember the best treatment is avoidance and we have the same problem. I'd sacrifice to be with my dogs too, hehehe. If you can tolerate Benadryl and it's the only thing that works, you can take it regularly, but remember, it can make you sleepy. Have fun with the dogs, i hope you will develop tolerance. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
35 year old female (history of Crohn's disease) with new facial flushing. Never happened before. No new meds, foods or skin products. Antihistamines and cold compresses not helping.
Unusual: Based on the info you provided, it's hard to say exactly what it is. If you are having any belly pain, i would be concerned that your flushing could be related to an evolving crohn's infection or fistula. Other ideas include an allergy, or even more rarely would be a type of a tumor called a neuroendocrine cancer. Make an appointment to discuss with your doctor. ...Read more
My 1 year-old was diagnosed w chicken pox.Its been >1mth now n new rashes r growing.Y?Shudnt it resolve in 3 wks?Can antihistamine b given for itch?
I'm concerned.: There are three possibilities. (1) it's not chicken pox. (2) it's chicken pox but your child's immune system isn't working correctly due to a congenital immune defect. (3) it was chicken pox (aka varicella) but there is a secondary infection. The most severe of these are caused by the same streptococcus ("strep") that causes sore throats. See your doctor. ...Read more
Would like to know if both antihistamine and decongestant thicken mucus.Have read some newer antihistamine (zyrtec) do not, and decongestants do not.
Dehydration: Thicker mucous is an expected response of an inflamed mucous membrane. The best way to thin the mucous is to drink lots of water. ...Read more
Newer antihistamines are not anticholinergic. So why are side effects like constipation often reported for claritin for example?
Yes but...: Antihistamines can be taking twice a day safely if required but there are other treatments available. If by allergic reaction you are referring to seasonal allergies, the gold-standard therapy is daily nasal steroid sprays and/or antihistamine nasal sprays. Nasal saline rinses, avoidance measures, and if refractory to treatment, allergy shots can also be helpful. See an Allergist for more details. ...Read more
