Stop worrying: Sed rate is famously imprecise and is of interest only if it is consistently quite high. Monocyte percentage of 900 isn't worrisome if you're not sick. I would be concerned about elevated ast and alt; this may be anything from smoldering viral hepatitis to medication allergy, hemochromatosis, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, or any of several others. ...Read more

What does alk, ast, ALT high levels mean if they are high? Is it cancer?

Not necessarily: These are liver function tests. When they are high, it means there is some degree of liver damage. High levels are seen in viral or alcohol hepatitis or drug toxicity with tylenol (acetaminophen) or some herbal preparations or fatty liver. Even though cancer can cause increased liver tests, other more common causes as listed above should be considered first. ...Read more

Hi I have just had a blood test done and high levels of AST and ALT. What does this mean? What should I do?

It depends..: It depends on exactly how high they are and what your doctor felt on examination of your liver (did he/she feel it was enlarged/painful?). Sometimes this can mean you have viral or autoimmune hepatitis, toxicity from drugs or other toxins, alcoholic liver disease, and a list of other possibilities. You need to have a serious discussion about this with your treating physician to discuss next steps. ...Read more
