Neosporin Antifungal Cream
Weeping rash that keeps running. Not from food or poison ivy. I used neosporin and clotrimazole antifungal cream but nothing works. Its behind my knee?
I don't think so: These antibiotic ointments should be used sparingly and under certain circumstances, usually in deeper cuts and abrasions. I don't think they should be outlawed because they can be very beneficial if used properly. Not every cut needs a band aid and neosporin. If anything they should discontinue the sale of antibacterial soaps. ...Read more

My son had a tick bite. I had to carefully remove it. Head and all and put alcohol to clean, neosporin and itch cream will it be ok?
Simple Care: When our protective skin is injured/opened, then the delicate internal environment is exposed to the harsh external environment. Covering it with a clean dressing is the way to go changing it every other day or so. Avoid scratching. Anti-itch creams help. Also, stay away from peroxide, alcohol, betadine, hibiclens, bleach solutions and other irritating things. ...Read more
What do you recommend if I have a big cut on my leg and I have put savlon antiseptic cream on it, and I wanted to know if it was the same as neosporin?
No: Main component of savlon is cetrimide which is an antiseptic. On the other hand neosporin is an antibiotic which is effective against infection. Savlon protects against infection. Neosporin treat infection. You cannot substitute savlon with neosporin. Use of savlon will reduce the changes of infection and use of neosporin. ...Read more
Neosporin is available in both a cream and ointment. They both have the same ingredients. What is the difference between these two preparations?

Not Neosporin!: Neosporin has not been found useful in treating anal fissures. A surprising cream that does seem to help heal anal fissures is Nitroglycerin! This medication is used for treating angina but it has also been found to relax the anal sphincter and also increase blood flow to the fissure which aids in healing. See your doctor or a proctologist for this - it is not an over the counter medication. ...Read more
What is a stronger topical antibiotic cream than those used in Neosporin for ulcerative wound care.
Wrong question: NO antibiotic is useful for wound care. Neosporin is useless. Studies of surgical wounds comparing antibiotics to vaseline or Aquaphor showed no benefit from bacitracin or neosporin. Use of topical antibiotics caused allergic reactions, impaired wound healing, and promoted emergence of resistant bacteria such as MRSA. Care of a wound is determined by its location and size and cause. ...Read more

After my toddler heals do I need to get all the neosporin cream (neomycin and polymyxin b) entirely off?
Yes: I don't know what your toddler is healing from, but prolonged contact to the neomycin in the neosporin can lead to allergic reactions in the future. So, yes, removing any unneeded cream is a good idea as is using it sparingly to begin with. Plain vaseline or aquaphor will often help heal wounds as well as neosporin without any risk and is what I recommend to my patients post skin surgery. ...Read more

I accidentally applied neosporin instead of diaper rash cream on daughter's vagina will this hurt her?
Doubtful: Some kids can have an intolerance or allergic reaction to anything you put on their skin, especially in sensitive areas. Luckily that is rare in infants and to that medication. In the future if you want to do a trial for skin sensitivity, you can put a small amt on the pad of a bandaid, apply it to a clear skin site like the back & check it over the next day. No break out, no sensitivity ...Read more

I had a scab, which is removed now and it shows pink skin do I put neosporin on it or aloe vera cream. Is this a scar? How can I prevent it to scar
Leave it alone: I don't know how severe or large your skin injury was, or where it is on your body. But your skin was/is trying to heal itself underneath the scab, and you removed it before it could do that completely. All new skin is pink, whether or not it's going to scar. It may continue healing ; resolve. Don't use an antibiotic (including ointment) unless it looks infected (oozing pus, swollen, etc.). ...Read more
Depends: If it's just a minor, superficial cut, then probably yes. If a larger gash or bleeding, see a doctor to get it evaluated and stitched. All of this also depends on the dog not having rabies. If you don't know the dog, you need to get evaluated by a doctor and have the dog examined. ...Read more
2 month old has diarreah frequent wiping caused redness and some bleeding on skin. Can I use neosporin and desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream)?
Do not need: Antibiotics. Diarrhea cause the skin to be sensitive and irritated from the acid. Neutralize it with maalox suspension (this is an antacid taken orally) but in this case, I want you to apply it on the diaper areas where it is irritated. It will soothe the area and heals irritation in no time. Continue using your diaper rash cream/ ointment as usual. See md if with yeast infection. Need rx. ...Read more

Can do better: No one needs to have bad acne or acne scarring in this day and age.
