Reaction to neomycin-polymyxin-hc prescribed for ear infection this morning - I have taken two doses - experiencing dumbness and swelling on right side of face. Please advise.
This: This is per webmd "a very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), redness of the ears, severe dizziness, trouble breathing." Neomycin not emycin (erythromycin): Yes, you can use topical creams or ointments containing neomycin and polymyxin if you are allergic to e-mycin, also called erythromycin. The three medications do not cross react. It is confusing, because 2 of the medications' names end in the letters "mycin, " but in this case the names are misleading and there is no relationship between the medications.

I usually apply uniflex-n cream (betamethasone 0.1%, neomycin 0.5%) to prevent pimple from growing bigger at my face. It works. Is it actually safe?
No: This is not useful for acne. Neomycin is of no value for any use on any skin problem. Betamethasone is a potent steroid which should not be used on the face. It increases risk for glaucoma and cataracts. Repeated use on the face, especially young women, may lead to a condition called "perioral dermatitis". When this occurs it seems to get better when Betamethasone is applied, only to rebound when.See 1 more doctor answer
Is it safe for me to have a shingles vaccine if I had an allergic reaction to neosporin and was told that I was allergic to the neomycin in it?
1week: Most cases of external otitis would respond within 1 week. Although these drops are efficacious for treatment of middle ear infection, ENT academy does not recommend there use if there is a hole in the ear drum or tubes in place. Neomycin is theoretically oto toxic, although rarely seen. Thank trial lawyers for driving up the price of ear drops.
Rapid: Most topical drugs like the otic solution you describe are minimally absorbed by the body. Furthermore, the amount you are using is so small there is more than likely small to undetectable amounts in your blood stream.
