Depends on cause: Most neck and back pain is muscular. It could be due to strain or tension. I recommend a hot shower (not so hot you burn yourself, be careful) or a hot bath. Massage is also a good way to work out muscular causes. If you live in nyc, there are a number of places that do massage.
