There are also some other disorders of childhood that could result in a speech delay so it is important to have the problem evaluated. It's not helpful: The point of speech/language therapy for kids with ASD is not only to increase expressive language, it's to increase social communication, conversational turn-taking in real life situations with real human beings whose emotional & verbal response are neither scripted nor always expected.
