Too much: Self manipulation on top of chiro manipulation can cause unwanted laxity in the joints of your spine. If you have not had a course of formal physical therapy, i would recommend that as your next step. You need to address the muscular component of your pain as well. Possible: Sounds like you may have pinched a nerve when "cracking your neck". It is also possible that a muscle has also been injured or is in spasm and your neck movement may make it worse.
