Refers to all the physical matter humans (like all living creatures) must take in on a recurring basis; only partially for energy. Like all life on planet humans are open systems which keep tearing down their structure & require intake of atoms/molecules from which to rebuild their structure. Intestinal lining cells replaced ~every 3 days. CaPO4 in bones ~every 6 years, ...Read more
Not very well.: The weight loss is due to the severe caloric restriction. In men with low testosterone and normal testicles, it may work better because the HCG will increase the testosterone level. In women, HCG may increase progesterone. Higher Progesterone may lead to less anxiety and therefore less eating. Overall, smart eating plus increased activity is a better choice. ...Read more
Absolutely: You must do the diet under supervision of a qualified physician, injectable HCG not drops, and strict adherence to the original 500 calorie diet and not a modified version of it with higher calories. You can lose 1-2 lbs of fat per day. Some physicians call this diet dangerous or won't work, but lack an understanding about the diet and it's proven safety. In use since 1950s. ...Read more
Most people believe: The reason it "works" is because of the severe calorie restriction--500 kcal/day-- associated with it. Theoretically, HCG may exert some appetite suppressant qualities which make it easier to only eat 500 calories. A pregnancy hormone, HCG is a pro-hormone and may promote other hormones, i.e. thyroid. Most authorities are skeptical of its safety and effectiveness. Target: 1200 cal/day + exercise. ...Read more
I get asked this question a lot. I tell patients think about what you're doing exactly: 1. Taking a hormone that can modulate other hormones and is only elevated during pregnancy (un-natural)
2. You're ingesting merely 500 calories, some docs have modified it to 750 calories. But still too low for any person. It works as an immediate, fast tool for weight loss but not for good! ...Read more
Yes: It will have no effect on your hrt. Just check what the base of your hrt is, if it is oil based creams than you will not have the proper weight loss. ...Read more
I would stop it.: Let your doctor know you are on the diet. If you are taking drops or internet product I would recommend stopping as that won't work. If you are taking injectable and you have an infection, it might be best to stop to let your body recover, as the ketotic effects may interfere with the distribution and effects from the medication. ...Read more
Not a good uptake.: Hcg is best taken in as an injection. Pills, sprays, creams are not effective at raising levels of hcg. There has been backlash in its use as a wt loss aid & fda is looking to restrict the sale of the actual hormone. At its height of popularity, Pregnyl was the preferred form. If not using this and not in an inj its most likely not the real deal. There r better ways to lose weight anyway. ...Read more
Possibly: The HCG diet was originally developed by a.T.W. Simeons M.D. During the 1940's -1950's. It has been used all over the world for over 50 years. This method is extremely safe & effective when used under the care of an experienced & trained md. Apparently HCG has an effect on your hypothalamus, increasing adiponectin levels & reducing leptin resistance. The method must be followed strictly to work. ...Read more

Q should be reversed: Shouls be "as I continue to do all the things to stay healthy, and treat my thyroid, is it ok to be on the HCG diet". That "diet" is so far down any list of successful wt loss & more imp effective long term maintenance of the wt lost, I find it diff to address the q as you asked it. Just know the % muscle u burn on hcg, is the amt of fat u will regain once u pass the wt u were at when u started. ...Read more
Yes, but...: You may take Metamucil, in either form with your diet. However, the hCG diet has not been shown to be safe and effective. It is a diet with severe calorie restrictions, and can increase the risk of gallstone formation, irregular heartbeats, and electrolyte imbalances, among other side effects. I would not recommend this diet. There are safer ways to lose weight. Good luck. ...Read more

I've been on the hCG diet for one week so far and I am getting really hungry. I have cheated by eating nuts. Will this stop me form losing weight?
Yes: You must follow the diet originally created by dr. Simeon. If you are getting hungry than you are not on real HCG or the proper dose. The only way to do this diet is under supervision of a qualified physician and strict adherence to the original 500 calorie diet. When done the right way, you will not be hungry. The wrong nuts have high fat content which is counter to the diet. ...Read more
What is Vitcofol Why is it given as an injection with hCG diet, instead of having B-12 vitamin injections? I have never heard of Vitcofol until now.
Vitcofol=simply vit.: B3, B9 & B12 in a single combined injection. Could all of these be taken orally, if needed at all? Of course. Why injection? Doc wants to make sure actually taken in, easier, more money for Rx, etc. Would all fit. HCG diet mostly hype. Hydrocodone, dextromethorphan both psychotropic agents, often addictive, not good track records, esp. Used beyond a few days. Seek assistance worthy of your trust. ...Read more
Hi im currently taking the hcg diet and I wanted to know if I could consume crystal light in the diet. I'm currently on my third injection with 500 cal?
Try sugar free kind:
You are on hcg diet to loose weight. Crystal light is sweet and contains only 5 calories per serving of 8 oz in artificially sweetened varieties or sugar free. You can try the sugar free variety and if you can tolerate it than it, then you may continue. But do not drink the once containing sugar as that will make you feel hungry and gain weight
Some people can not tolerate it while on hcg diet ...Read more
I did the hCG diet for 3 weeks in june and now I have a 8 CM cystadenoma in my left ovary. Could this be a cause/effect or a complete coincidence? I am 52, in great shape and was happy to go from 141 to 129 pounds.
Not related: The HCG diet would not be related to the development of a cystadenoma. At age 52 with an 8 cm ovarian mass I am hoping that you are scheduled for surgery soon. The diagnosis of a cystadenoma may be suspected by its appearance on ultrasound but the only way to know for sure is to analyze the surgical tissue. Please discuss surgical removal with your physician. Congrats on the weight loss. ...Read more
