Had Gastric Bypass. EGD clear. Ultrasound shows sludge in gallbladder. Can sludge still cause me pain in my right side and extreme nausea after eating?
Possibly.: Usually sludge in the gallbladder doesn't cause pain (gallstones can). However, it may be that your gallbladder isn't functioning properly. The best test to have done is a HIDA with cholecystokinin (a special nuclear medicine test that tells whether the gallbladder empties properly). Possible retention : In a male over age 55-60, post-operative urinary retention is quite common because of the effects of surgery, anesthesia, and medications causing swelling/tightness of the prostate and retention of urine. A UTI would be another possibility. Avoiding constipation, warm tub baths, limiting use of pain meds may be helpful things you can do. See GI: It sounds like you need to have your sphincter of oddi fixed by a GI physician who specializes in ERCP. Overall you need to be seen by the GI doctor for evaluation and treatment.. See ur surgeon: This could be several things such as a retained stone causing symptoms, or a bile leak such as from a clip slipping off causing a "biloma." Or, it may be none of these things. Maybe: Sounds like a typical recovery period except the peptic ulcer. Make sure to stay well hydrated, and consider avoiding the narcotic pain medication if possible because that can cause constipation. If you're worried, call your surgeon to find out more. POSSIBLY: Gallbladder sludge is basically very tiny stones and granules. Sludge is the precursor of larger stones, and certainly can cause similar symptoms. So, if you have nausea , back pain or right upper quadrant pain, especially after fatty foods, it is quite possibly the cause. I suggest you discuss this with your doctor and surgeon.
