Many causes: The usual suspects are excess dietary salt, use of NSAIDs, sleep apnea, malabsorbtion or interference with prescribed anti-hypertensive medication, licorice. Less common but to be excluded: new onset renal disease. I ask patients to purchase a BP cuff and keep a home diary of BPs taken at complete rest.
