Natural Sleep Aids While Taking Prednisone
Please talk to doc: Some of the natural sleeping pills are ok to use, but some will indeed interfere with certain anti-depressants. So it really does depend what ones you are on, boh prescription and the natural ones you want to use. You need to talk to the doc who prescribed the antidepressants to make sure what you have chosen doesn't interact. Also, if having sleep peoblems yet, may need to tweak your dose. ...Read more
Prednisone is a synthetic cortisone. The body makes cortisone, a natural hormone made in adrenal glands. The body converts it to Hydrocortisone to become active. 25 mg of cortisone has about same effect as 5 mgm prednisone. The average person would produce 3-6 mg of pred daily. So why use a substitute? The synthetic has more anti-inflammatory effect; but has less effect ...Read more

Best natural sleeping remedys for insomnia, sleeping disturbance? Instead of having to take sleeping pills / painkillers to sleep?
I take 25mg of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) every night to aid in me falling asleep, rather then taking any sleep meds. Any better alternatives?

Yes: In my opinion, Alprazolam (xanax) is a horrible drug. It is rapidly absorbed but short acting, which means it wears off and often results, like alcohol, in awakening in the middle of the night and having even worse insomnia. Insomnia is not a diagnosis - it is a symptom of something else. You are far better off talking with your doctor about the reason for the insomnia to find specific treatment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can I take valerian root at night before bed while taking 25mg Zoloft (sertraline) daily? Is it safe? Or are there interactions?
Be careful: As you say you'd be taking the Valerian at bedtime, the fact that the combo can cause drowsiness, inability to concentrate and dizziness may not be too disturbing - but it can also increase a risk of respiratory depression - so if you have any breathing issues I'd avoid it and if you feel even a bit of such problems cease use immediately. I'd try warm milk or a boring book instead. Best!. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can melatonin cure sleep apnea related rbd? I've been using melatonin for a week, not getting any better.
No: While one may be able to sleep longer or change part of their sleep, the obstruction or obstructions remain. The ability to get to rem or stay in rem is still hampered, the oxygen saturation (sp02) is still affected, etc. If you have sleep apnea, you need to look into an oral appliance, CPAP or surgical alternatives. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What are the long term effects of take massive am outs of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to help with sleep at night? I've been taking 500 to 800 mg doses every night.
Taper off!: You have likely become habituated to this medication. Putting multiple times recommended amounts of any substance or chemical is to be discouraged. There have been reports of overdoses with respiratory depression and hallucinations at high doses of benadryl (diphenhydramine). Your body will process what it can, store what it can't until you reach a toxic level. That level is different for everyone. ...Read more
Can I take Somnapure natural sleep aid and Puritea natural energy and antioxidants from Peak Life with current medications?
I'd be careful ...: As you know, manufacture of herbal supplements is not regulated so their purity, safety and effectiveness can not be guaranteed. You are on some medicines, including Lamictal and Toviaz, (fesoterodine) which are unique and actually could interact with quite a few things. Somnopure contains valerian extract & Puritea contains ginseng. I hate to discourage something that sounds so promising, but I would avoid. ...Read more
Is taking 11 sleeping pills in 5 consecutive nights safe? Thanks. Not being able to sleep from anxiety..
Depends: That sounds excessive but might be ok. I can't really tell without knowing what kind of sleeping pill you took. If it is an over-the-counter agent, most of those have Diphenhydramine as the active ingredient, and the usual dose is 25 mg. 11 of those over 5 days would mean 50 or 75 mg of Diphenhydramine nightly. This is not bad, but you should seek treatment for the underlying anxiety. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No guarantee: I'm afraid ther is no guarantee. Some of the over the counter things taken can actually make some people's sleep issues worse (like in the case of RLS and antihistamines (benadryl). Just be careful on using something to help with sleep even if "natural." find out what is causing you to have trouble falling asleep if you can. ...Read more
