Don't think so...: I don't find any real evidence that this is true. And babies should not have harmful bacteria in their mouth anyway, so need to kill it.
Sometimes flossing severely hurts, and I have battled gum recession for years. Could eating raw garlic regularly help kill bacteria in my mouth?
Flossing: If flossing hurts either your gums are inflamed (infected) or you're doing it wrong. You are probably in need of treatment by a bone/gum specialist. Please schedule with a Periodontist. Think of it this way, what you have been doing up until now has been ineffective. Time to see a specialist for care.See 1 more doctor answer
I want to properly use mouthwash to kill bacteria thru the night but I do not want any brown staining on my teeth. What wash rinse product to rely on?
Mouthwash: Brushing, flossing, and use of a proxy-brush is the best routine for maintaining a healthy mouth. Use of mouthwash is not effective in removing bacterial deposits, although they can be helpful in preventing excessive growth. Salt water, a mild hydrogen peroxide solution, and baking soda may be just as effective as any store bought mouthwash. Concentrate on mechanical debridement.
I have these sores on my tongue. I rinse it off with listerine 2-4x/day hoping it would kill bacteria to heal fast. Can I use orajel for comfort?
No: For relief, make a mixture of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) liquid (12.5mg/tsp) with kaopectate (or maalox) - equal parts of each liquid. Rinse with 1 teaspoon every 2 hours for 45 seconds - 1 minute and spit out. Stop rinsing with listerine. Don't use orajel. Both products will further irritate your sores.See 2 more doctor answers
Will swishing around oral thrush nystatin on my tongue kill the bacteria on my teeth enamel as well? Bacteria is erode my silver fillings make sick
Misinformation: The internet is full of misinformation about silver fillings. If they wear away they do NOT cause bodily harm. Bacteria will not erode fillings. Mouthwash will not erode fillings. Thrush is caused by the Candida fungus (yeast), not by bacteria. Nystatin will not clean your teeth or remove the bacteria that causes tooth decay or gum disease. Please see your Dentist for evaluation.See 3 more doctor answers
Can bacterial infections happen that's not strep and show symptoms in your tonsils? If so, what does it make you feel like and can it kill you?
Yes: Pharyngitis can be caused by other bacteria and viruses. Overall, it may make you feel bad, but they all go away within a few days by themselves (with a normal immune system), with or without treatment. The reason we treat strep is that is can cause other problems down the road, like rheumatic heart disease. Danger would be severe swelling of tonsils, which is fairly rare. See a doctor.
I took bacterial vaginosis treatment by mouth two weeks ago, but I got oral thrush from it, and I think my BV has come back after having sex?!
Recurrent BV: Recurrent BV is a common problem, and unfortunately the most effective treatments (usually metronidazole by mouth) can trigger yeast infections. BV isn't usually an STD in the usual sex, except in lesbian partners. Still, even with male partners, it's a good idea to either avoid sex or use condoms consistently (even with regular partners) for several weeks. For expert advice see an NHS GUM clinic.
I've had a sore throat & swollen tonsils for +7 months. It is not bacterial and the dr. Believes it to be viral. What are the treatment options?
Surgery: After a certain point, your tonsils, following multiple and chronic infections, can remain chronically inflamed. If it is chronically painful and enlarged or recurrently infected, a tonsillectomy can be considered. Consult your ENT to discuss this further.
Dizzy spells and elevated blood pressure with occasionally a rush of blood to my head kind off feeling, no headaches, no sinus issues, no numbness or nausea. Treatment with Rocephin about 3 weeks ago for a bacterial infection.
BP control: Get your BP controlled. Your symptoms are not necessarily related to infection and what type of infection were you treated for?
Boric acid: Not great data suggests boric acid in a gel cap from your compounding pharmacist inserted daily for one month, then as needed. It's usually a reaction to lubricants, soaps, chlorine from a pool or hit tub, or even semen! avoiding any chemicals there, especially dial and irish spring are really helpful.
I've been on Keflex 500mgs for bronchitis. My immune system has been compromised due to RA. I have thrush now, any natural remedies to kill it?
Licorice root: Canker sores are often triggered by particular foods like citrus, tomatoes & gluten. Some are caused by sodium lauryl sulfate, commonly found in toothpastes. My favorite treatment is topical licorice extract in chewable tabs, but homeopathy may help. Should heal in a week or so even without treatment- if not see a doc! See http://www. Huffingtonpost.
