Please advise on treatment for perimenopause particularly symptoms related to extreme gas and bloating.

Please advise on treatment for perimenopause particularly symptoms related to extreme gas and bloating.

Consider other cause: When you state "peri-menopause", the gamut of symptoms is actually quite large. I would not list changes in bowel habits as high on this list (related to extreme gas and bloating). "extreme" gas and bloating needs to be evaluated by a physician who should perform and abdominal and pelvic exam. Visit www.Nams.Org for menopause info. Dr. Christine northrup mentions that women in perimenopause benefit from thyroid treatment regardless of test results, why do others disagree?

Dr. Christine northrup mentions that women in perimenopause benefit from thyroid treatment regardless of test results, why do others disagree?

Need real evidence: Dr. Northrup, like dr. Oz, and others, tend to stay in the public eye because of media, sensationalism, self promotion. Some of the things they promote are good and based on sound scientific evidence, many things however, have no scientific proof. There are no legitimate studies that demonstrate a benefit to taking thyroid hormone in people who have no thyroid problem. Any med has side effects. ...Read more

51.7yrs., perimenopause, using Alesse. Have mild IC, bladder expansion, experiencing bladder fullness, unable to urinate. What are treatment options?

51.7yrs., perimenopause, using Alesse. Have mild IC, bladder expansion, experiencing bladder fullness, unable to urinate. What are treatment options?

Not as ez as it seem: because the subjective feel/symptoms of too much bladder tone and too little are utterly indistinguishable without putting a pressure gauge into the bladder and actually seeing what is going on. With "mild IC' then, the likelihood of either is quite high. Obviously, the treatments are opposite. ...Read more

I prefer the most natural of hrt. I read estrasorb is a good cream. Would that be suitable to take with prometrium (micronized progesterone) for perimenopause symptoms?

Yes: Yes, transdermal estrogen is very likely safer than taking estrogen by mouth. It's less likely to increase risk of blood clots and gallbladder disease. Transdermal estrogen along with natural Progesterone is my preferred way of treating women for menopausal symptoms if they need it. ...Read more

What is best approach to perimenopause? Natural or estrogen?

What is best approach to perimenopause? Natural or estrogen?

Depends upon you!: By natural, i assume you mean not taking anything at all. This is fine as long as you can tolerate the symptoms & changes associated w/perimenopause. However, if you need something, then estrogen is the gold standard, far & above any other option. But it's not w/o risk. Talk to your doc. Ask about different forms as risk varies there, too. There's also bio-identical vs non-bio-identical. ...Read more
