What are natural killer cells?

What are natural killer cells?

Immune cells: Natural killer cells are immune effector cells that are efficient in killing virus infected cells. They can be divided into 2 sets: CD56bright (produce antiviral agents and help a subset of T cells) and CD56dim (fully mature, can destroy antibody targeted cells). There is a 3rd, dysfunctional subset that has been described in HIV. ...Read more

What are uterine natural killer cells?

What are uterine natural killer cells?

NK cells in uterus.: These are nk cells of the cd56 subset that have lower cytotoxic (cell killing) ability than the peripheral or regular cd56 positive nk cells. They have a different receptor profile and make up 70 % of the lymphocytes in the uterus in early pregnancy. It is important that the mother's immune system is suppressed for successful pregnancy, and so it is believed that these cells are crucial to this. ...Read more

What r natural killer cells?

What r natural killer cells?

Cells that kill.: These are cells of the immune system that kill other cells that represent a danger to the body, like virally infected cellls and cancer cells. They have a natural ability to recognize stressed cells and can kill these without need of antibody or major histocompatability complex alteration to prime them, hence their name. Thus, they can present a much faster response than other immune cells. ...Read more

I've heard that endometriosis causes an increase in "natural killer" cells & this affects implantation & loss. True? Ways to reduce nk cells?

I've heard that endometriosis causes an increase in "natural killer" cells & this affects implantation & loss. True? Ways to reduce nk cells?

Very little is known: Natural killer (nk) cells may well be important in implantation and maintenance of pregnancy. Unfortunately uterine nk cells are hard to get to - we don't have good ways to measure their activity or to influence what they do. Taking blood from your arm and 'testing' peripheral blood nk cells doesn't help. Depo-lupron treatment prior to ivf may improve implantation in women with endometriosis. ...Read more

Is natural killer tcells or ntk detected in blood?

Is natural killer tcells or ntk detected in blood?

Possibly.: These are t cells that share characteristics of t cells and natural killer cells (nk cells). There are only 0.1% of peripheral blood t cells. But they express markers cd4, cd8, cd16 and cd56, and have an affinity for the non-polymorphic cd1d molecule, an antigen-presenting molecule that binds self- and foreign lipids and glycolipids. This makes them posssibly detectable on flow cytometry. ...Read more

Is there anyway to stimulate production of your nk (natural killer) cells? Ie special diet, supplements, immunotherapy, etc

Is there anyway to stimulate production of your nk (natural killer) cells? Ie special diet, supplements, immunotherapy, etc

No: In fact, too much nk cells can cause serious illnesses. The body needs to work in a balanced fashion, too little or too much of a component tends to make one less healthy or even seriously ill. You need nk cells for defense but when the defense gets too intense, it can cause collateral damages in your body. ...Read more

When testing the immune system can bloods test. B cells t cells nk killer cells, what is the best way to test immune function in depth?

Good start: Yes, the parameters you mentioned can be tested easily, and there are numerous other tests which may help to assess "immune function" which can be utilized depending upon the clinical situation and indices of suspicion. You might see either an infectious diseases expert or an immunologist. Good luck. ...Read more

Which ingredient is the best way fight wrinkles? Retinol, peptides, collagen, stem cells, plancenta, amino acids or vitamin C

Which ingredient is the best way fight wrinkles? Retinol, peptides, collagen, stem cells, plancenta, amino acids or vitamin C

Growth factors: We have known since the 70s that retinoids and retinols are great collagen stimulators (which equals wrinkle fighters). In this century, we developed collagen growth factors which are derived from actual human skin and are necessary for collagen to thrive, thus reducing and eliminating wrinkles. Note i did not say "appearance of wrinkles". Skinmedica is my favorite product to contain these. ...Read more

How are sickle cell anemia and malaria related? I've heard of an evolutionary advantage.

How are sickle cell anemia and malaria related? I've heard of an evolutionary advantage.

Sickle and malaria: Patients with sickle cell disease are protected againts severe and complicated malaria infection- by 2 mechanism: -1. Cells infected with malaria paracytes had accelerated sickling compared with noninfected cells- and as the result the cell would be destroyed/ promoting removal of infected cells from the circulation `2.Impaired paracyte growth due to reduce o2 content in sickle cell. ...Read more
