Fruit may cause gas: There are some fruits/vegetables that are complex and can lead to gas/bloating. They are called FODMAP; examples are apples, pears... also broccoli, asparagus, brussel sprouts. Does eating fruit after meals cause bloating as the non acidic fruit ferments on top of your meal?

Does eating fruit after meals cause bloating as the non acidic fruit ferments on top of your meal?

No.: Fruit, like all food, gets broken down by digestive enzymes, and the nutrients are absorbed. Some of the sugars such as sorbitol and fructose are not well digested by humans, and some soluble fruit fibers also. These work as natural laxatives and are good for us. Excess of anything is not good, and too much fruit or fruit fiber could cause gas. Eat fruit in moderation and enjoy! ...Read more

To lose weight I've been eating salad & lean protein.Stomach pain after 4hrs of not eating. Should I give in and eat?

Yes...: Try to snack in between your major meals with a healthy snack like cucumbers or celery. Also drink water, avoid sugary drinks, and yes, DIET drinks. Diet drinks fool your brain and you actually end up eating more to make up for the calories your brain thinks you need. Low-fat foods means added carbs, thus you end up gaining weight. Keep it simple, natural, and lean! Good luck! ...Read more

I have diarrhea and abdominal discomfort after changing my diet by reducing many carbs, taking a probiotic and eating more fiber. Is this normal?

It certainly can be: The more changes you make in your diet, the higher likelihood you will experience changes in your bowel habits. The bowel gets used to processing certain types of foods and when you present something different, it adjusts. Making changes gradually rather than all at once is the best way to minimize these effects. Back off something and reintroduce gradually; symptoms should improve. ...Read more

Unfortunately : Unfortunately there is no way around this problem, the issue here is Cellulose (fiber found in raw vegetables) this is a carbohydrate that is very difficult for the human body to digest. For this reason, if a lot is consumed the result is gas, bloating and nausea. You should also be aware that for this reason many of the valuable nutrients in raw vegetables are actually not being absorbed by the body, which defeats the intended purpose of eating this way. I believe that steaming your vegetables would be better on your digestive system, and would give your body more nutrients. On the other hand, you can try using a digestive aid before consuming raw vegetables. Examples of naturally occurring digestive enzymes include aloe vera and papain. These can be found at your local vitamin and herb retailer. Good luck! ...Read more
