Natural Foods To Stimulate Bone Marrow
Bone marrow is the flexible tissue found in the interior of bones. In humans, red blood cells are produced in the heads of long bones, in a process known as hematopoesis. On average, bone marrow constitutes 4% of the total body mass of humans; in an adult weighing 65 kilograms (140 lb), bone marrow accounts for approximately ...Read more
Doctors told my girl friend that her body can't produce enough bone marrow, what can she do? Is it serious? Which foods are useful for this condition?
Could be serious: She needs to be under the care of a hematologist, a specialist in blood disorders. As long as she is making adequate amount of blood (can be checked with a cbc, blood test), she is not in any immediate danger. But sometimes bone marrow can shut down production completely. This may be a serious problem... Should seek second opinion, if need.
Is there certain foods that will increase my iron I have iron deffiancy anemia. From having neutropenia my bone marrow won't store iron?
Get straight amswer: The history you give suggests a need to sit down and have a frank talk with your physician and get the facts. Unless you're seriously restricting your diet, it's hard for a man to become iron deficient unless he also has blood loss in the got or elsewhere. A combination of anemia and neutropenia raises concern for myelodysplasia or something similar, it's your right to know the score here.
Bone marrow shows no cancer cell, but why the WBC still at 2, and platelet drop too? Any food or any supplement can increase WBC and platelet?
No: If you are an AML patient it depends where you are in your therapy cycle. Marrow examination may be important here.
Home of blood cells: The cells in your blood are born and reach maturity in the bone marrow. This is the very protected space in the middle of your large bones like your arms, legs, hips and back. Once the cells are mature, they are released into the blood stream where they travel throughout the body preventing infection (granulocytes, lymphocytes), supply oxygen (red cells) and prevent bleeding (platelets).See 1 more doctor answer
Under gen anesthesia: Donating bone marrow for transplantation entails a procedure called bone marrow harvesting. The donor is placed under general anesthesia and turned over to lie on his/her belly to expose the hip bones on the back. Multiple aspirations of bone marrow are collected (average about 1 liter) at adjacent sites on the hip bone on both sides until a particular number of cells are reached.
Register as a Donor: You can register in any blood bank by asking about the national marrow donor program (nmdp) also called: be the match registry. It is simple to register as a potential donor by giving a sample of body cells, usually taken from inside of your cheek. Once they find your body cells match someone in need they will call you to donate your blood stem cells or marrow stem cells.
Detecting diseases: Bone marrow tests are performed for many reasons, but the commonest ones are: detecting bone marrow involvement by a cancer - many cancers, notably lymphomas spread from their primary site to different organs of the body, including the bone marrow detecting cancers of the blood leukemias finding the cause of anemia. Bone marrow infiltration by other diseases
HLA type: Every cell in your body has human leukocyte antigens (hlas) on the surface that act like a cell i.D. These allow your immune cells to recognize your cells as part of you and not foreign cells that need to be attacked. The bone marrow donor's hlas should match the patient's hlas as closely as possible so the donor's immune system doesn't attack the patient! Hla is determined by a blood test.See 1 more doctor answer
The bone marrow: Changes as we age. The cellularity is the percentage of blood cell production as compared to fat. As a rule of thumb the cellularity as a percent is 100 - your age. Hypercellularity means that number is higher than expected.
Go to a blood bank: Most hospitals have blood banks and they know how to register you to donate a sample of blood or cells from a cheek swab for matching. Thye will register you at the national marrow donor program (nmdp). You can also look up nmdp or...Be the match program in the internet and find more information.
