Prostatitis: Only 30% of the cases are due to infection. The rest have no known cause and no known cure. Sometimes drugs that reduce prostate size or those that reduce the symptoms help. See your urologist. ...Read more
Vulvar Folliculitis: Assuming that the lesions are truly pilo-pustular in origin [see image], the most common bacterial causes are staphylococcus and pseudomonas sp. M. Hominis is, of course, associated with cervicitis and vaginitis, and very infrequently with vulvovaginitis [photo from uptodate. Unclear: I'm not sure if you are referring to mycoplasma fermentans or not. There is the thought that it has a role in gulf war syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, and "chronic" lyme disease, but treatments like months and months of IV antibiotics, i'd imagine, would fall outside of mainstream medical care. I'd defer, however, to my infectious disease colleagues to see if they can add any thoughts. ...Read more
A person take a dose of 4*500mg azithromvcin in the same time, can Mycoplasma genitalium be cured?
Smegma not bumps: M genitalis is what is found in the cheesy, curdly secretion found between the foreskin and glans penis. It does not cause bumps- if you are referring to the whitish bumps that is sometimes seen alon the edge of the glans penis, those are naturally occurring " pink pearly penile papules ". ...Read more
Maybe miscarriages: Ureaplasma & mycoplasma hominis have been implicated in single miscarriages or recurrent pregnancy losses. The studies are not high quality, but it's relatively cheap and easy to give a course of antibiotics to women who have had one or more miscarriages, & their partners. Mycoplasma genitalium may be a cause pelvic inflammatory disease (pid). See a rei specialist if ttc without success. ...Read more
If a person has mycoplasma genitalium, what way is the fastes cure and how should the medicine best be taken to cure the infection the fastes way?
For a vaginal infection caused by mycoplasma hominis, I am aware doxy is the chosen med, but for how long? Heard mycoplasma can be stubborn.
Mycoplasma Hominis,: M. Hominis is generally susceptible in vitro to tetracyclines (eg, doxycycline). Fluoroquinolones, such as Ciprofloxacin and moxifloxacin, are usually active in vitro against m. Hominis. Chloramphenicol mics are relatively high for m. Hominis (2 to 25 mcg/ml), m. Hominis is generally resistant to the macrolides (erythromycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin), aminoglycosides, sulfonamides, etc.). ...Read more
How to find the Bug (bacteria, virus, fingi, parassite, mycoplasma etc) that caused an orticaria, acute pneumonia, atypical broncospasm, mass?
What are some common genera of pathogenic bacteria that have no species found in the human body naturally? Borrelia? Brucella? Yersinia? Mycoplasma?
Great thought question. However, you are assuming we know all the community of species of bacteria in the body (aka. The microbiome).
Recently, we have discovered thousands of genera in our body through molecular techniques (most don't even have a name yet). Though it's tempting to generalize, the question you pose can't be answered with any reliability with what we know today. ...Read more
Had a mycoplasma and ureaplasma vaginal swab test done while I was on nitrofurantoin for something unrelated. Can this possibly cause false negative?
No: Nitrofurantoin is used almost exclusively for either the treatment or prevention of a lower urinary tract infection (aka bladder infection, cystitis). It has no activity that I am aware of against either mycoplasma or ureaplasma and would therefore not cause a false negative vaginal swab test for these 2 organisms. ...Read more

Hi doc wondering why do I have greenish discharge but I do not have chlamydia, gonorrhoea or mycoplasma what is the cause of green vaginal discharge?
Infection? Trich?: Colored vaginal discharge usually indicates infection. You don't mention trichomonas, which might be possible. Trich has been almost eliminated in urban Australia, so I would expect a test to be negative. Still, it should be checked by PCR test. Consider consultation at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre. Australia's SHCs are the world's best such clinics, and MSHC is the best of the best. ...Read more

Can non chlamidial ngu cause pid in female partner. Gonorrhoea, chlamidia, mycoplasma genitalium, ureaplsama, trich all negative. No std found.?
Probably not: Neither PID nor any other health problem has ever been documented in the sex partners of men with NGU not due to chlamydia or M. genitalium. Does your partner have PID, or are you just worried concerned about it? If the latter, my advice is to not worry. If PID is suspected, she of course should see her doctor or perhaps an NHS GUM clinic. Otherwise nothing need be done. ...Read more

Is there ANY safe antibiotics nursing moms can take to cure Mycoplasma? Have bad throat pain & neck lymph node I want to cure & get rid of this! Help
Doubt mycoplasma: Mycoplasma pneumoniae causes respiratory infections, but it's not a common cause of sore throat or inflamed nodes in the neck. This sounds more like a garden variety viral infection, and no antibiotic will help. Or maybe strep throat? Check with your doctor: if s/he believes M pneumoniae or strep is likely, then azithromycin would be effective and is safe for nursing babies. ...Read more

Hard w/400 character: The term "mycoplasma" is used to refer to organisms within the class mollicutes that is composed of five genera (mycoplasma, ureaplasma, acholeplasma, anaeroplasma, and asteroloplasma). 120+ named species exist and 13 mycoplasma species have been found in humans. No need, no worries: Mycoplasma hominis is an entirely normal bacteria in the genital tract, present commonly in healthy people. Testing for M hominis is rarely necessary, and no need for treatment, including the sex partners of people with positive tests. If you or a partner has the STD nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), MH is not the cause, but NGU still needs treatment -- also his sex partner (s). ...Read more
Several kinds: There are a few kinds of Mycoplasma. M. pneumoniae causes bronchitis and pneumonia, usually not very serious. M. hominis is a normal bacteria in the genital tract. M. genitalium, also in the genital tract, is sexually transmitted and causes the STD nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) in men and maybe cervical and tubal infection in women. But even this is not known to have any serious long term effect. ...Read more
