Nasal Spray For Ear Infection
Not really: Fluticasone is a nasal steroids spray that works to decrease the allergic inflammation in one's nose and subsequently decreased one's nasal allergy symptoms. A decongestant, for example pseudphed, is a vaso constrictor, that shrinks blood vessel that ultimately shrinks the nasal mucosa. ...Read more
There are three different types of ear infections that affect different areas of the ear. Outer ear infection (Otitis externa) affects the ear canal and the outside part of the ear. Middle ear infection (Otitis media) affects the middle ear and leads to fluid accumulation behind the ear drum. Inner ear infection (Otitis interna) is a less common inflammation of the inner ear that causes vertigo, ...Read more
Enhance: While a true sinus infection is best treated with antibiotics, there is data that one can enhance the resolution of symptoms by adding an intra-nasal steroid spray. This addition is probably most helpful in patients who have some nasal congestion on an allergic basis. The use of an intra-nasal decongestant may also be helpful in the first few days of treatment to enhance drainage. ...Read more
Saline washes: It depends on the cause of the congestion, but saline nasal washes at least don't have side effects, unlike decongestants and antihistamines. If the saline doesn't help enough and your symptoms persist, it may be time to see your doctor. ...Read more
Dry eyes. Can't take decongestant or antihistamine for sinus infection. Will Sinoclear serve the purpose of unclogging sinus n post nasal drip?
Can Ipratropium Bromide nasal spray help with post-nasal drip? No runny nose or front nasal discharge, just the drip. Not linked to allergy (per ENT)
Depends: It depends on the cause for the post-nasal drips. If the nasal drips is not linked to nasal stuffiness, sneezing, or runny nose, one needs to consider other causes (sinus infection for example). If your nose and eyes itch, it is likely from allergy which can confirmed by the history and skin testing. One can't tell whether one has an allergic problem by looking at the nose and throat alone. ...Read more

Equal: When it comes to nasal steroid sprays they are all effective and it typically becomes a "patient preference." Flonase smells like flowers and requires a doctors prescription (until spring 2015 when it goes over the counter). Nasacort (triamcinolone) is tasteless and odorless and has been available without a prescription since spring 2014. ...Read more

Does nasal irrigation/wash will give relief from stuffy nose colds , allergies & sinus infection ?
Nasal irrigation: Yes, this will very often relieve symptoms of congestion, reduce some pain and shorten the duration of illness. You might invest in a Neti-pot and use saline rinses. ...Read more
Just the opposite: Sinusitis or inflammation of the paranasal sinuses (there are 4 paired sinuses) does not cause nasal congestion. The opposite is true. That is, nasal congestion leads to sinus inflammation. It is true that they very often occur together, but the nasal congestion is the first event. Otc treatment may include saline (salt water) irrigations of the nose, a netti-pot and a decongestant. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
How do you get fluid out of your ear after an ear infection? I used a nasal spray but it isn't working. What else can I do?
2 months after my ear infection my hearing is blocked, I have tinnitus and nasal spray didn't work. What should I do?
Is it possible for a nonmedicated saline nasal spray to get stuck in the nasal cavity and cause of ear infection in a five-year-old?
Ear infection causes: Ear infections are caused by bacteria or viruses. Noses are full of bacteria anyway. Saline rinses away a few bacteria; if the bottle is dirty, saline may add a few bacteria to the nose, but they won't often travel to the ear because the Eustachian tube is a tiny passage, esp in children. Droplets of water sprayed in nose are only in the nose a few minutes. Squeeze bottle irrigation CAN hurt ears. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My left ear feels like it is clogged how can I relieve this? I went to the doctor on monday and he treated me for a sinus infection. He gave me anti-biotics and nasal spray. I seem to be doing better except for my left ear feels like it is clogged and whe
This : This is likely due to eustachian tube problems caused by the sinus infection. The antibiotics will clear the infection and help with the inflammation. The nasal spray is possible a steroid spray to decrease inflammation, or a decongestant to decrease edema. The positional component to the symptoms could be due to mucous in the middle ear. Sometimes ear symptoms take a while to clear even after the sinus issues are over. ...Read more

I have a cold and my ears keep plugging up and won't pop for a while. Thanks to neti pot, nose spray and pseudoephedrine, sinuses otherwise seem ok, just ears plug up. Is doing Vasalva maneuvre OK while having a cold, or could it cause ear infection?
Ear blockage: The blockage is caused by the Eustachian tube, which runs from the back of the nose to the middle ear, being clogged with mucus. To dislodge this sticky mucus, try steam inhalation and irrigating your nasal passages with warm salt water. Vigorous valsalva maneuvers are not advisable and don't dislodge the mucus in the Eustachian tube. ...Read more

I have a sinus infection that is causing horrible pain in the maxillary area and my ears are clogged. Safe to use a nasal spray while breastfeeding?
Yes.: The saline sinus sprays are completely fine. Things like afrin (oxymetazoline) work on the blood vessels to decrease their size. This type of medicine also can work on the blood vessels of the breast to decrease milk production. It is more of a problem when you take a decongestant by mouth but still a small risk. Check out lacmed app as a resource for meds and breast feeding. Feel better! ...Read more
Can Hypersal in nebulizer be used for nasal congestion? Saline solution hasn't helped 5mo & she keeps getting ear infections due to persistent cong
Increases congestion: Hypersal is a solution of salt water similar in saltiness to ocean water. It is nearly four times as salty as the solution that bathes all the cells in your body. It acts as a potent irritant. When inhaled it makes you cough and you bring up mucous. When placed in the nose it will make you sneeze. The irritation caused by this degree of saltiness may induce reflex nasal congestion. Not a good idea ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Had a really bad right ear infection 2 months ago, my right cheek bone a little swollen, tooth like pain, fluid in ear, post nasal drip, what's going?
Possible sinus: The way I read your question-it seems you had an ear issue 2 months ago(which presumably cleared),and now have additional symptoms on the right. You may currently have a sinus infection. Sinus issues can cause pain with Eustachian tube dysfunction so there may be a connection with your previous problem. Heat and antiinflammatories can help with pain. See MD to evaluate for possible antibiotic ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I'm 36 y/o & have had 4 or 5 inner ear infections this year. My doc has suggested I get grommets. What are the pros & cons. Also have nasal polyps with about 5 ops over a 15 year period?
Inner ear infection!: you probably meant 'middle ear infections' and Grommet tubes are meant to ventilate /drain the middle ears in case the Eustachian tubes are blocked. You also have nasal polyps that were surgically removed 5 x before, all this points towards chronic inflammation, ? allergic, in your upper airways, kindly see an allergist, if you have access to one, Grommets will just be temporizing, good luck ...Read more
Pelargonium sidoides (umcka). Does it really work to heal or speed up throat, nasal, bronchial, even ear infections? Or one more than the others.
My 15yo son took Augmentin for 10 days for a sinus and double ear infection.. just finished 10 day course and he is coughing with nasal and ear congestion again. No fever.. what should we do. He has a script for Flonase, says it doesn't help. Suggestion
Still congested: With sinus infections, it is important to decongest to remove the mucous that caused the infection in the first place. Flonase can help reduce swelling of the nasal turbinates, but it doesn't clear the mucous. I would recommend one of the antihistamine/pseudoephedrine products sure as Claritin D or Zyrtec D 12 hr. They will clear his congestion as the Augmentin does not. ...Read more
