Hi, recently diagnosed officially w/ cvid. Is there success w/ xylitol nasal rinses to prevent sinus infection when i catch a cold? Don't want ivig tx
May be: Nasal rinses with xylitol may be more effective than simple saline solutions. They may not prevent sinusitis, but will help reduce their occurrence. Possible Sinusitis: The diagnosis of a bacterial sinus infection can be be quite difficult. Most causes of post nasal drip will not require antibiotics. Certainly facial pain and postnasal drip are important signs and can make you feel miserable. A few things..: You can try a neti pot- rinsing out your sinuses can be very helpful. You may also try a short course of oral decongestants or an antihistamine with a decongestant in it (like Claritin-D). You could also benefit from a prescription nasal steroid- you may have chronic allergies causing your symptoms.
