Very Successful: Deviated septum surgery is very successful to remove the blockage from the airway. There is a possibility of the septum not staying in place and having a recurrence. If you are having a lot of crusting after surgery, particularly if you are more than 6 weeks out from surgery, you should get in to see your surgeon again. You might: Consider trying using an emollient with a oil base, like vaseline on the inside of your nose, or review with your ENT about possible use of an antibiotic ointment if there is a suggestion of vestibulitis. You should also consider regular saline nasal irrigation - as long as it's OK by your ENT post-surgically. And review with your ENT about humidifcation of your not only your home but CPAP. ...Read more

Probably: You are probably a nasal staphylococcus aureus carrier (as is 25% of the population). You probably have a superficial nasal infection. If it persists you may need treatment with topical Mupirocin ointment or oral antibiotic treatment. An alternative explanation would be that you have allergic rhinitis that needs treatment with antihistamines or topical corticosteroid sprays. See your md prn. ...Read more

My right nostril is sore inside and is creating crust. Not sure what's going on in there but using bactroban nasal ointment in it. Will it suffice?

Only time will tell: Since have no idea what is causing the inflammation and crusting there is no way in which to predict outcome. Bactroban (mupirocin) may change the staphylococcus colonizing your nares, but no way to know whether it will suffice to heal the lesion in your nose. ...Read more

What's your question: Go see your Family Doc if over-the-counter allergy medications aren't enough to control your symptoms. Of course, try to figure out what's changed. Weather? Pollen season? Trees & flowers in bloom? Mold w/humidifier use? New foods? Failing that, your Family Doc can evaluate you & offer prescription options.
