Is it possible to have a sinus infection without nasal congestion or runny nose?

Is it possible to have a sinus infection without nasal congestion or runny nose?

Yes: A sinus infection occurs when bacteria (most commonly) grow and create pain/pressure in one of the sinuses. Many times, one of the ostia, the openings from the sinus into the nasal passages get plugged up for various reasons without typical sinsus symptoms. Recently had a patient with severe sinusitis whose only symptom was a bad cough. Otherwise felt fine. ...Read more

Do medicine that's suppose to be for nasal congestion and runny nose really work?

Do medicine that's suppose to be for nasal congestion and runny nose really work?

Yes, usually: Nasal congestion and runny nose can be a symptom of many disorders. If the underlying problem is allergies, nasal steroid sprays are very effective and antihistamines help. If symptoms are from a cold, it will just take time. If symptoms are from sinus infection, then antibiotics will be useful. If symptoms are related to pregnancy, they will resolve when the baby is born. ...Read more

Sinus: I suspect this started like an ordinary cold but at this point you may have a sinus infection. Contact your doctor for a more in-depth evaluation since a number of questions need to be answered. Allergy is unlikely at this time of year if you haven't had it before. ...Read more

Have a runny nose and nasal congestion, don't feel well but no other symptoms other then that, unprotexted sex 2 weeks ago csn this be HIV?

See below: It is not possible to say if you have HIV infection, though the risk is low. You may get a HIV nucleic acid test now and if it is negative repeat it in six months. A negative HIV nucleic acid test at 6 months after exposure would rule out HIV from that exposure.

My daughter is experiencing fever (severity: moderate) and runny nose. The following also describes her: Nasal congestion. What should she do?

Common cold: Nasal congestion with fever in this age is best treated with nasal saline spray to wash out the secretions and help nasal breathing, I would treat the fever with acetaminophen or ibuprofen if she is bothered by it and seems cranky or upset. Fever is a normal body reaction to illness that helps the body overcome the illness. It is important to monitor breathing which is normally easy and quiet. ...Read more

Have nasal congestion, runny nose and sneezing made worse when exposed to low temperature. Nose blocks after sneezing. Do I have nonallergic rhinitis?

Possible: But in my experience, having sneezing spells (especially if you have eye symptoms) points more to allergic than non-allergic. Nonallergic rhinitis is a diagnosis of exclusion also since one needs to prove that allergies do not play a role. You may also have both allergic and non-allergic rhinitis as well. Try a nasal steroid spray ...Read more

I am experiencing an inflamed ear lobe. The following also describe me: Nasal congestion and Runny nose. What should I do?

Allergy or a cold?: The ear problem is likely a separate issue but you nasal symptoms can be from a cold (if lasting just a few days), allergies, or even vasomotor rhinitis- can't tell given the lack of details. If you have a cold, using a nasal decongestant spray for 3-5 days may be ok. If you have allergies, a nasal steroid would work better. As for your earlobe, it may be from an infection or a contact irritant. ...Read more

Most mornings I wake up with a runny nose and very often have nasal congestion. No temperature & I feel fine. No known allergies. Vasomotor rhinitis?

Combination problems: Congestion after lying down is due to dilation of nasal tissues related to gravity. That said, if your septum was straight you probably wouldn't feel congested. Also, most people have at least mild allergies so when you say "no known" do you mean negative tests? It turns our there is a commin condition called "local allergic rhinitis" where the nose is allergic but tests are negative. See an ent. ...Read more
