Postnatal drip.: Following viral upper respiratory infections, it is not uncommon to have cough for 3 weeks. The lining of the respiratory tract has the blanket of very tiny hairs called cilia. I was sick 3 wks ago- doc prescribed amoxicillin. improved, but have had a post nasal drip ,throat clearing and cough . What otc nasal spray is best?
Viral or allergic ca: The cause of your post nasal drip and subsequent throat clearing is almost certainly mucus generated in your nose secondary to either an allergy or a viral infection. Your response to the amoxicillin was most likely serendipitous. There are many nasal sprays. There is no one best spray. There are pluses and minuses to each. Discuss them with your doctor. ...Read more

Post nasal drip and junky cough in 3 y/o for 16 days, hoarse for 2 days. Saw doc day 10 and day 14- no antibiotics. Sinus infection? Complications?
Child strep and bad mucous cough. Antibiotics for 3 days still has fever. Doc prescribed claritin nasal spray and inhaler for rhonchi, why claritin?
Good question: I am not aware of a nasal spray containing Claritin. Even then it would not have done that much for nasal congestion or the cough That the fever is still present after 3 days of antibiotic points more to a viral infection which often causes coughing and wheezing in children especially before age 3. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My doc put me nasonex (mometasone) and tessalon pearl for cough and post nasal drip, sneezing, stuffy for over 3 weeks but I still can't stop coughing. Need sleep?
See below: If your cough is a post-viral cough, almost nothing helps. Nasonex can take weeks to really start working well. Astelin nasal spray works pretty well. Chlorphenirimine works as good as anything if the cough is coming from post nasal drip. Lastly, you might try to find Chestal with honey - I've found it at Whole Foods and Walgreens. It works as good as anything I've tried that's over the counter ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
