Narcotics Relieve Pain Induce Sleep And Elevate Mood
Can deep brain stimulation if placed right hypothetically be used to induce sleep since it can be used to induce pain relief among other things?
Is how a patient says they feel, or how someone feels internally, versus how someone's mood appears, which is called "affect." if you say your mood is "happy, " and you appear to be so, we would say that your affect is congruent. If, however, you actually look really angry, we would say your mood is "happy" and ...Read more
Yes and No: Narcotics (opioid pain medications) only relieve pain. Typically when pain is under better relief you may potentially get better sleep. Also when your pain is under better control your mood elevates or improves. However this medication should never be used for sleep or mood/psychiatric disorders only as that would be a dysfunctional use of these medications.
I think it can, but: Would not be able to tell you much details without doing research on it. I graduated almost 30 years ago and this kind of things have been studied before that, as far as I remember. It is not in active use right now.See 1 more doctor answer
Are there sleep meds that induce sleep but don't impair judgement - if I have to get up4kidmergency?
Nothing great: There are no great choices with sleep meds as far as avoiding sleepiness the next day. Closest is probably a newer drug called rozerem (ramelteon). It works by imitating natural melatonin, a hormone which convinces your brain it's time to sleep. It does not do much to maintain sleep, so if you wake up, you are less groggy, but you might not sleep long. It is new and expensive and insurance coverage is poor.
Why in the world: Would you want to induce sleep paralysis in yourself??? Possible triggers include being overly stressed, deprived of sleep or having changes to your sleep schedule. However, don't have a clue as to how to cause am vs pm sleep paralysis episodes.
Some tips: No caffeine for 6 hrs & no alcohol or tobacco w/i 2 hrs of sleep. Keep dinner moderate sized & finish at least 2 to 3 hrs before sleep. Can try warm milk, chamomile tea or melatonin along w light reading, warm bath or lavender scent. Room should be completely dark. No tv or radio. No electronics with blue lights.
Warn bath/ lavender: Retire & rise same time each day. Keep bedroom dark & cool & use only for sex & sleep. Turn off tv. No naps. Exercise regularly but not in late evening. No caffeine for 6 hrs & no alcohol or tobacco w/i 2 hrs of sleep. Keep dinner moderate sized & finish at least 2 to 3 hrs before sleep. Can try warm milk, chamomile tea or melatonin along w light reading, warm bath or lavender scent.
Can I just stop taking zolpidem? I feel it may be causing too many undesirable side effects. Any anxiety meds that help induce sleep? :/
A few days ago I took 100 mg clozapine after being off it long time, to induce sleep. Just like before it caused nocturnal enuresis. Last night again even though I didn't take any. When will it stop?
Abstain 1 week: If symtoms continue, seek a medical opinion and testing.See 1 more doctor answer
Is it dangerous to take more than the recommended dose of sleeping pills every few days to induce sleep because of fear or eating and gaining weight?
Yes, it's dangerous!: Yes, it's never a good idea to take more than recommended dose of anything, especially w/o your doctor's monitoring. Too many people die every day from overdosing on sleeping pills, etc. Don't do it! Instead, talk to your Family Doc about your fears over eating & gaining weight. There are healthy ways to address your concerns. Taking excess sleeping pills isn't the right way to fix any condition.
After just one night of useing xanax, (alprazolam) antihistamines or melatonin to induce sleep, I am awake the entire night! Never used to have this reaction. Why?
Not the right combo: Each of these meds can help sleep or agitate. Combining them all on the first night? Melatonin is mostly benign but when used with vitamin b6 (think 5 hour energy) agitation can result. Some brands still include b6. Antihistamines are known to produce agitation in susceptible people. They learn who they are. Xanax (alprazolam) has a rapid onset but the rapid stop can agitate and cause reuse (think addiction).See 1 more doctor answer
Very depressed and have been taking NyQuil liquicaps to help induce sleep for a week. Read that it can damage brain and memory. Is this true?
What is the reason behind 1st generation antihistamine induce sleep (by which mechanism cause sleepiness in our brain)?
Anticholinergic: First generation antihistamines block the h1 and h2 histamine receptors but also have some anticholinergic effects by partially blocking other receptors. This can lead to dry mouth, urinary retention, sedation and other side effects. This is usually dose dependent and worsens with high doses.
Ever sense I had my daughter 6 weeks ago my arms will fall asleep when I sleep elevated on my back why is this & what can I do?
Nerve being pinched: The position you're holding your daughter is most likely causing some pinching of the nerves in your back, changing positions or sleeping on your side will often help improve this situation. Stretching and going on the "child pose" (yoga pose) every few minutes will help immensely as well.
