How many teva naproxens do I take to OD?

Call for help?: Hi. This question to me really seems to be a call for help. If you are considering harming or killing yourself, please at least speak with a suicide crisis councilor, a psychiatrist, or someone equally qualified to discuss why you feel suicidal and if anything can be done to help you come out of this low. Fortunately, naproxen is unlikely to kill. It can cause GI irritation and bleeding, kidney dz

A dr prescribe me magnesium oxide 2years ago and I didn't have headaches the last two years. Another dr prescribe naproxen now. Which is better?

See below: These are two different medications. Naproxen is not safe if taken regularly. Use tylenol (acetaminophen) sometimes if you have headache. Mag oxide is not for headache actually- make sure you are not getting too much mag oxide and your magnesium levels in blood are ok.

I have been prescribed naproxen 500 mg and am a light smoker, what are the risks of smoking while taking this med?

I have been prescribed naproxen 500 mg and am a light smoker, what are the risks of smoking while taking this med?

Smoking: The main risk of nsaids is slightly higher blood pressure and stomach upset. The main risk to your health, however, is continuing to smoke, rather than any ill effect of the drug itself. High blood pressure, increase risk of heart disease, stroke, lung, colon, bladder, mouth and esophageal cancer as well as COPD and emphysema should all get your attention more than the risks of nsaids.

As good as any: There are at least a dozen antiinflammatory meds on the market. Naproxen is effective but not for everyone. The reason there are so many medications is because not one is uniquely superior to the others. One person will "swear" by Naproxen while another says it "does nothing for me".

Is there any medication safer than naproxen?

As far as NSAIDs?: Naproxen in a recent danish study proved safer for the heart than all other non steroidal ant-inflammatory drugs, even compared to placebo. It will replace some of my other go to drugs. But there are caveats. It can irritate the stomach. It does negate aspirins cardio-protection. It can cause a decrement in renal function in some patients!

How long does naproxen last as a blood thinner?

About 24 hours: Naproxen is the brand name for naprosyn (naproxen) a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication. It reversibly inactivates new platlets for about 24 hours. This means the blood is "thinned" or less likely to clot during that 24 hours. Aspirin alternatively irreversibly inactivates platlets so they are less sticky for about 7 days. In both cases these are generalizations that differ person to person.

I have left ventricular dysfunction & cervical spondylosis. What is the safest nsaid for me? Long half-life naproxen or short half life ibuprofen?

A Suggestion: See if you can use volatren gel 1% 3-4 x / day which is topical and generally will not have systemic effects. This works very well for a subset of patients and is well worth atry in your case.
