I stepped on a nail yesterday but it never went through my skin or brought any blood. I had a tetanus five years ago should I get another?

Yes and No: Yes, get a Tdap shot if a person is an adult and hasn't gotten a Tdap shot in the last 10 years, regardless of yesterday's nail incident. No, if the tetanus shot 5 years ago was of the Tdap type, because a tetanus booster is not needed if the nail "never went through my skin". Also, a new recommendation this year is for pregnant women to get a Tdap shot with EACH pregnancy. ...Read more

Oily back n acne since puberty but now when I scratch my back, my nails would easily build up something brown, what is that? I know Its not blood n pus

Please don't scratch: First, try as much as possible not to scratch, as it can lead to more skin irritation and scarring. Keep your nails short and use your acne care products as well as moisturizing your skin to prevent it from drying and itching.

Tetanus: Tetanus shots are recommended every 10yrs. However, I usually recommend getting one, with an injury, if it's been more than 5yrs. How long would it take tetanus to show since an injury even if there is no blood and a scratch it's been 6 days?

Tetanus incubation: Tetanus can develop anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks after an exposure. We think of the 'rusty nail' as the paradigm of exposure, but it can come from any break in the skin with contamination by the tetanus spores - which are found EVERYWHERE, not just barn yards and dirt piles. The best thing to do is get vaccinated against tetanus. You can see an ID doctor if it becomes more complicated than that ...Read more

Big red scratch after contact with rusty nail should I be fine no tetanus shot has been a day? No bloody hand or nothing but a little worried

Preventing tetanus: Well tetanus can arise from almost any wound, although most commonly those are the deep, penetrating wounds from stepping on a nail, not just a superficial scratch.
