How accurate is NAAT urine tests for chalmdyia and is it possible to get two false negatives in a row?
Testing: The negative predictive value of chlamydia NAAT urine tests are in the 99% range. This means that a negative test very likely indicates that there is no disease. 2 negative tests are even more likely to indicate that there is no disease. Nothing is impossible, but it would be HIGHLY unlikely that there would be 2 false negatives in a row. ...Read more

NAAT HIV testing:
Again you keep asking about antibody testing. It is accurate if enough time has passed for the body to create potential antibodies. Usually up to twelve weeks after exposure. But tests after twelve weeks will of course be accurate.
It is just mind blowing that anyone is offering you these tests when there is a 100% accurate test that does not require such a length of waiting. ...Read more
Why do so many doctors on Health Tapp recommend NAAT tests for HIV testing when HIV professionals recommend the 4th gen test as a better test.
It depends...: You need to read the context of each question. Which test is "better" depends on the clinical situation. Indeed 4th generation (antigen/antibody) tests usually are sufficient and should be the usual recommendation. But NAAT for HIV RNA or DNA (in addition to antibody testing) is proper when the risk is especially high or if there is clinical suspicion of acute retroviral syndrome (ARS). ...Read more

A bit too early: The exact time for reliable chlamydia testing by NAAT isn't certain, but 3 days probably is a bit early. A negative result would be somewhat reassuring, but probably not conclusive. It would be safer to wait until 5 days or so, unless there is some urgency (e.g. if you have abdominal pain or other symptoms of a complication like PID). ...Read more
After how many weeks of Exposure would the 4th gen HIV test be more accurate than a NAAT or RNA test?
It depends...: Unless the exposure was especially high risk, e.g. unprotected non-oral sex with a KNOWN infected person, NAAT testing should not be done at all. The 4th gen blood tests usually are positive at 2-3 weeks and always by 4 weeks. That's probably what you need. If the risk may have been genuinely high (e.g. unprotected anal with another guy), don't test online; see doc or clinic in person. ...Read more

Gonorrhea tests: This is a tough issue where one test says positive and the other negative. Our human tendency is to believe the result that we like but for safety reasons it is usually safer to treat based on the positive STD screen. NAAT is great for gonorrhea & chlamydia testing but false positive tests can occur. ...Read more
Does the HSV swab NAAT test conclude the site of infection? In theory, if a lot of discharge was on the swab, could it not detect infection elsewhere?
The test will detect the presence of HSV at the site from which the swab was taken. However, HSV has access to your whole body and it does not much matter where the primary site of infection is or was.

A few possibilities: It is hard when people have one positive and one negative result on a test. Possible interpretations are: 1. The neg tests were false and the + test is correct 2. The neg tests were true and the + test is incorrect 3. Both are correct and you acquired it between tests. You and your doctor who know you can determine that best course of action. Consider testing your partner. ...Read more

2 false pos ELISA HIV tests, all 1 1/2 years post exposure. Neg western blot, ifa, naat and 2 neg oraquick home tests. What is my HIV status? Help!
Likely negative: There is typically a "window" of 3-6 months after exposure where you could be HIV positive but test negative. Since you didn't get your testing until well after that, i'd say the confirmatory tests (western blot, ifa) are what you should go by. The elisa is very sensitive and can have false positives- that's why we rely on the confirmatory tests. I would consider your status to be negative. ...Read more
