Search for help: Last message lists research sites, but with the child having symptoms, sounds very likely of genetic origin, and this needs further assessment, again at a research facility. Include all children in such a study. Hang in there, many facilities have research and insights.

10 year-old with muscle weakness and pain our son (shawn) had a probe placed into his thigh several weeks ago and the doctor confirmed myopathy. Since that test, shawn has had a muscle biopsy procedure at the hospital (thigh). The results showed no signs

Your: Your son probably does have a myopathy. The problem with a muscle biopsy is that the piece of tissue taken out is very small and may miss affected muscle. Your doctor has probably done a CPK test. This is a blood test that measures an enzyme released when muscle is damaged. There are also special stains that are used to look for different causes of myopathy on biopsy material. There is a dry blood spot test that looks for acid maltase deficiency that can present with muscle weakness and pain. The testing is paid for by the company that makes an enzyme replacement therapy for it. I hope this gets sorted out for you soon.

What types of muscle myopathys are inherited&if tested positive for a myopathy but don't know what one how do I find out?

What types of muscle myopathys are inherited&if tested positive for a myopathy but don't know what one how do I find out?

Physician can tell: A huge number of myopathies are hereditary but some of the most common and troublesome ones (polymyalgia rheumatica, inclusion body myositis, polymyositis / dermatomyositis) seem to strike at random. Your physician has a duty not just to tell you the diagnosis, but whether it's hereditary and where there's a risk to others.

I have a fast resting heart rate and low blood pressure. Does this mean my heart is not efficient? Could I have heart trouble valve or myopathy?

? POTS: Although there is very little other information, you could possibly have paroxysmal orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. The increase in heart rate would in particular occur upon standing. This can be accompanied by associated decrease in blood pressure - with lightheadedness, fatigue, excessive thirst. If chronic, can prompt cold extremities, shortness of breath, headache, restless sleep, GI symptom.

Are there any treatments available for idiopathic myopathy?

Are there any treatments available for idiopathic myopathy?

Idiopathic: The term idiopathic as you may know means that your doctors are unable to determine a cause for the problem. When a condition is idiopathic it makes it very difficult to treat because we are unable to provide treatment based on the cause as it is unknown. Symptomatic treatments for myopathy may be provided. These may include things like pain medication, anti-inflammatory medication, and steroids. Physical therapy may also help. However it would be best to discuss these with your doctor as he or she could help you with the specifics of your myopathy.

I have myopathy due to my use of topical steroids for dermatitis. Now I got tired from long standing or short distant walking. What shall I do to cure?

Exercise!: Incrementally increase your effort as you endurance improves. Any sporting activity, inlcuding walking is good. But get a heart rate monitor and subtract your age in years from 220 and then multiply this times 0.7. This heart rate will be reached with appreciably little speed, if you are deconditioned. As your endurance improves you will be able to walk faster and farther to achieve that hr.!
