Doctor's exam needed: A 2 month old baby normally does not have bad-smelling poop nor smelly gas. If that is happening, the doctor can examine the baby and look for infectious causes such as viral or bacteria causes. Does Simethicone lose effectiveness if taken regularly? Does it have any bad side effects?

Well tolerated ..: Overall it has limited adverse effects besides some reports of loose stool and stomach upset. It works as a "surfactant" to alter gas bubble formation, so it does not necessarily loose effective over time, just like soap! Many causes: Abdominal bloating can have many causes including ibs, celiac, small bowel bacterial overgrowth, c. Difficile or other pathogen, lactose intolerance, gallstones, ovarian cancer, pancreatic problems, an obstructive problem w/ the colon, inflammation anywhere in the abdomen or urinary tract leading to an ileus(slow down in the contractility of the colon), etc..Go back to ur doc for a more thorough evaluation. ...Read more
