My boyfriend's upper eyelid was swollen 3 weeks ago, maybe contact lense irritation or something. Now it's almost gone, but at the end of the upper eyelid is still swollen. Will it go away by itself? What can he do? Thanks.
Please See EyeMD: Eyelid issues in the setting of contact lens use is a very bad mix that can lead to devastating consequences. I am glad things are getting better, but you need to see an ophthalmologist to figure out why did the eyelid swell in the first place! if it was contact lens irritation, maybe it need to be refitted! please see an ophthalmologist. ...Read more
Infection / allergy: Swelling of the upper eyelid could be from an infected oil gland or skin glan, from a blocked oil gland (stye or chalazion), from allergy, from an insect bite or exposure, and from edema related to lying down. Infections are usually painful, tender and diffuse, while a stye is more like a non-tender lump. Allergy usually is associated with itching. Also, blepharitis is a chronic low grade infection. ...Read more
My upper eyelid has been swollen for five days now. I think its a stye but I can't see a small pimple or anything. I've cleaned it, but its still here?
Possible concern: Eye lid swelling can come from coming into contact with something that is an irritant or from a stye as you suggested but it can be more concerning than this. I would have expected that after five days something "more" would be present and more obvious - like a discoloration, etc. I would actually have your medical provider evaluate it. You could attempt to apply some cold compresses until seen. ...Read more
Unusual symptom: Anything extreme should be checked asap to determine the cause, especially if it is also painful, as this could be sign of an infection. Also possible is an insect bite. Allergy would most likely affect both eyes. It is hard to say what specifically about running would cause this to happen, and it might be coincidental. If this is a repetitive problem definitely get an exam. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

The edge of my upper eyelid is a bid swollen. I don't know if it is because of my allergies or a blocked oil gland. My eye Is itchy and sometimes hurt?
Hordeolum: A stye(hordeolum)occurs rather suddenly(MayB from rub). It is a blocked oil gland(s) of the eyelid. It can become secondarily infected and can spread to adjacent tissues leading to cellulitis. Most of these styes respond to very warm compresses 3-4 times/day for 10' followed by gentle massage with a washcloth containing a small amount of baby shampoo. After a week, the stye should nearly resolve. ...Read more
A drop of hot cooking oil splashed on my upper eyelid and now it is swollen , what do I do?? any quick remedies?
Cooking oil burns: Splattered hot cooking oil is dangerous and often causes second degree burns. First aid includes covering the source of the oil or backing away from the stove, and putting cold water or a cold pack on the burn. A doctor needs to check the burn if the burn is more than just a few oil droplets. Hydrocortisone cream for a few days can help decrease inflammation. Antibiotic cream may be needed. ...Read more
