Hello my tonsils are inflamed and i'm wondering if i should go to the er now or wait til the morning it's hard to shallow and loosing voice?
If it worries you,go: If you "wonder" about the ER, the only options you should consider are (1) going now (since the ER is always open), or (2) waiting to see your regular doctor. I don't know the office hours of your regular doctor, nor can I tell if he/she takes "walk-ins" (unscheduled patients). You can use HealthTap Prime as a substitute for your regular doctor, but "waiting to go to ER" isn't a logical plan. ...Read more

My lingual tonsil is inflamed and looks like a pimple. Should I pop it? If not how can I get rid of this?
Don't touch it: Even if it looks "like a pimple," tonsils are structurally different tissue and should not be instrumented except by a professional. That said, if you have associated symptoms such as sore throat, fever, etc., you should be seen promptly. It may be as simple as a viral infection, or worse, strep, or worse--an abscess. You may need antibiotics or surgical drainage. Go see your doc! ...Read more

My tonsils look look inflamed. There are streaks of blood on my tonsils and at the back of my throat. What could be wrong?
Could be: A brewing infection. Many viruses and some bacteria can cause infections/inflammation of the back of the throat/tonsils. If you are having fevers, painful lymph nodes and/or problems swallowing, you should be evaluated by a doctor, as this could be related to a specific type of bacteria that requires antibiotic therapy to prevent complications. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have yellowish, orange bumps covering the back of my throat. My tonsils are also inflamed. I've been experiencing this for two weeks now. ?
Needs checked: Most throat infections are viral or bacterial. Most viral and bacterial throat infections will resolve within 7 to 10 days. Since this is longer, it would be wise to consult a physician. While strep gets all the publicity, it is NOT the most common. Consider post nasal drainage due to environmental factors, and if you smoke, consider that the first place the hot burning gases go is the throat. ...Read more
Hi dr i hve red painless spots in the back of my throat I have a white painless tongue my tonsils also get inflamed very often what do I have?
Potential explanatio: Red spots on the back of the throat could be petechiae, or little bruises. These occur from trauma. Maybe back off from any oral activities you may be partaking in. White tongue could very well be related to the hairlike projections that grow on the tongue. Try brushing it more. Tonsils swelling is a normal immune response to any kind of infection. They are doing their job. Get evaluated. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What is wrong with my tonsils? Every 2 months my tonsils repeatedly become inflamed and sore and sometimes develops white spots. It's very irritating and my mother is tired of taking me to the doctor for them to say "you do not have strep throat". This ha
There : There are a few different things that could be going on here: - chronic/recurrent bacterial infections with non-strep bacteria - viral infections (such as mono) - tonsilliths - also known as "tonsil stones" these are little pieces of food that become lodged in the folds of the tonsil. Like an oyster, the tonsil becomes irritated and coats these pieces in mucus until the pop out on their own (those are the "white spots"). They can sometimes cause soreness and bad breath. If this continues to be a chronic problem, you may want to see an otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat doctor) for a more in-depth exam, throat cultures, and to possibly consider having your tonsils removed if other therapies are not working. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hi. it looks like there is a deeper crater in the top of my left tonsil. they are inflamed with tonsil stones but my biggest concern is the asymmetry.
Tonsil problem: Tonsoliths (stones in your tonsils) are common among the young with swollen, irregular tonsil tissue. Asymmetry is not unusual, and perhaps due to the size of these stones. Gargling, Q-tip/finger manipulation, or irrigation can dislodge larger stones, but only time or tonsillectomy will ultimately resolve them in my experience. These are not usually infectious, but if painful should be checked. ...Read more

Red bumps on the back of my tongue & tonsils are semi-inflamed. Painful to swallow. Worse at night & morning. Issue started a week ago. Help?
Pharyngitis: I would suspect that you are suffering from pharyngitis an inflammation of the lymphoid tissues and lining of the mouth. There is a ring of these tissues that line the back of the mouth... tonsils, adenoids and base of the tongue. It is likely a reaction to a bacterial or viral infection. You should see a MD to rule out a Strep. infection which left untreated can lead to mere serious health issues ...Read more
